DWP DLA christmas bonus

Thanks for your response. My daughter its mid mobility so,I assume not worth asking about car allowance
The 'car allowance' is the high rate mobility portion of a person's DLA so on mid rate you wouldn't be able to use hers to lease a car on the Mobility scheme.
Free school lunches
Parents do not have to pay for school lunches if they receive any of the following:- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190
- Working Tax Credit 'run-on' - the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

There's no such thing as mid mobility rate DLA, theres only lower and higher.0

the bonus is actually a bugbear of mine. whilst I am grateful for it I still think it should be stopped.
Many many people not on certain benefits do not get ANY christmas bonus so why should people like myself who are gettting DLA (or those on the other benefits)
It must cost a heck of a lot per person to run this £10 bonus. not just the £10 itself - the run of the letters, the postage, the phone calls from people not understanding the letters,
those that get their £10 seperate to the changed payment - so thats a seperate run that their payment has had to perhaps manually been put into.
Then those whose payments mess up a bit and people need to sort that out too.
The fact that disabled people are being targeted in general as an easy target for cutting outgoings surely by removing the £10 bonus the savings across the benefit system would be huge.Eleventh Heaven no 710 - we can all dream0 -
No-one I know of EVER received a letter notifying them of the £10 xmas bonus, it was just paid automatically with their benefit the first week in december0

We get a £10 bonus? How bizzare! What on earth for? I mean I can't really see what it achieves surley it would save the country millions to scrap that.0

Well I'm grateful for it and will miss it next year (though was expecting it being axed - its understandable). I always put it towards presents for the people who have cared for my son and supported us over the year as a way of saying thank you. But tbh presents will still be bought next year regardless.0

Christmas Bonus is to be scrap next year say ministers of government in next week autumn budget to save the government money & taxpayers.
I think this is a very good idea.Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.0 -
£10 isnt much for those on a low income. I am not saying that they should increase it. I am just saying that a few people on here seem to begrudge those on a low income/benefits a measly £10.life is what you make it, make it fun !0

DLA isn't means tested though...0 -
Although DLA isn't means tested the Christmas payment is still not a lot. As already stated it was £10 when it was introduced in 1970's. Think about how much it should be now - around £40 or so!
I'm using the £10 to help with cost of heating our all electric bungalow or towards the cost of a dehumidifier that will keep the heating needs, and so cost, down. Although I agree £10 off every person getting DLA adds up to quite a lot and could go towards something 'more worthy' I am sure that most the get it use it to help themselves in some way such as heating/a Christmas or Yule meal on wheels (or simular)/the higher cost of Christmas help etc.
By the way I usually get a letter saying about the Christmas bonus but so far have not got it. Last year I had had the letter by now.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy
