  • I have just tackled the Receipt Mountain and I WON :p so that's a huuge frog out of my way before the hols.

Got rid of a whole nasty stack of stuff that went right back to August when I was still completely stressed and have zapped it - all neatly filed and not giving off manic-exhaustion vibes in the corner of my room any more :j

And tracked down £15 worth of expenses receipts in the process so that makes it well worth the half hour of my time :T

Am surprised how pleased I am to have dealt with that - think I was avoiding it because of the receipts from the summer that would have reminded me how frazzled I was. But am better now. Decided today am going to email and hassle tutors tomorrow, as I need some flaming information from them in the first week of Jan. And by then I hope I will have had a week off work and fun and be relaxed and ready to think about getting project finished without taking strips off unhelpful tutors.

Am getting back to happy self little by little.

  • Note to self: do frog-type, anxiety-inducing work related things during the work day or very shortly afterwards. That way they stay contained and don't poison a whole evening by hovering in the background.

Now that my life has calmed down to a sensible level, I want to make sure that any future studying is kept in a sensible timetable. A friend did suggest this very early on, and she was probably right, but at that point I was so burnt out I couldn't face writing up the timetable because the work all just seemed so huge and out of control. When - or possibly if, because if they give me hassle over the project, I am going to tell them to stuff it rather than risk my health again - I start studying again, I want to have allocated times and breaks. It must be corralled into its place within my life, not allowed to terrorise me.

Do please remind me of this if I appear to have forgotten... :o

    Hello Rosa,

sorry to barge in but did I really just see a sweet little two bedroomed cottage with a backdrop of fields & woodland for just £36,000 .

Seriously, what century was that in ? Do people get paid in shillings there ?

I rent a 2 bed maisonette with similar views & it's market value is about £200,000. I will never be able to buy property in my area :(.

yes you really really did... Z was ably demonstrating the potential benefits of me heading back northwards. You'd have to ask him about the shillings :D

I did know such things existed because I was seriously considering buying somewhere like that a couple of years ago, just to do up and keep as a hideout, because I could do it while renting here (once debts are busted). I am in a similar situation - something similar in this county would be worth £200 - £300K depending how pretty and rural the village is. Ultimately I could afford to buy a small flat, but that's not what I really want (see earlier rant and musings).

Of course the problem is finding work to be able to live there, as it's difficult everywhere and the South East is easier than most places. But it will be part of my ditherations over the next few months and I'm keeping a rather more open mind about some job ads, having realised that I could take a pay cut and still potentially have a better lifestyle.

Fancy joining me then? The locals are normal apart from my relatives :rotfl:

  • Money news...

£45 expenses receipts located :o and now claimed :j

£250-ish of invoices copied, form filled in, batterysaga claim ready for posting tomorrow. The £120 for the battery can't be reclaimed but will be paid back to the credit card from the £35 remaining in the car fund plus £95 from payday on Thurs (£75 car fund money and the rest can come out of general funds).

£7 M&S lunch (and emergency Reversy Percys for the car) :o but I have stuff to take for tomorrow

£65 in Sainsbugs :o but includes a cute little bay tree I wanted for no particular reason so that £20 can come out of Christmas pressie money, plus stuff to feed friends tomorrow night, fave emergency pizzas while on offer, and double breakfast stuff so I can keep a stash at work again.

Still seem to have a bit more cash in the current account than I expected, but when I looked it seems I was £100 up on payday so hopefully it's fine. I will have to reassess everything properly in the New Year when all the juggling of funds has been done to account for Christmas. I think I only owe £50 back to the credit card and that's already accounted for in the budget.

Haven't done much about househunting but will try and make some phone calls tomorrow lunchtime now work is quiet and other claims sorted.

"Sweet" is not the word I would have used, but otherwise - Yep...

Nope. It's just near somewhere bad - i.e. just behind the wood. They eat their young there...

You will. But there will be carnage first.

Why do you need a hideout?
Of course the problem is finding work to be able to live there, as it's difficult everywhere and the South East is easier than most places.

This is very true. That particular house is about 10 miles from Newcastle, 10 miles from Durham and about 15 miles from Sunderland. Handy in some ways, but there are nicer places to live.
But it will be part of my ditherations over the next few months and I'm keeping a rather more open mind about some job ads, having realised that I could take a pay cut and still potentially have a better lifestyle.

You could. Your lifestyle is dependent on your disposable income, not your total income, which many people forget. The place with (on average) the greatest disposable income in the UK, is Hexham - believe it or not.

Do you know why you were? MSE ways, or a missed DD?

Isn't there something you should be clearing as well? ;)

Depends on what you were wanting to hide out from.
