And I just love the irony that the posters who are perfectly happy to let someone who desperately needs an organ die have the cheek to call someone nasty for pointing that out to them.

If you rank using a few mean words on the internet as worse than needlessly condemning something to death, then you need to reassess your priorities.

But some of us don't have a choice, HepC precludes me being a donor. And I wouldn't wish it on anybody it sucks.

So your saying it is stupid , spiteful and selfish for those who choose to go to the grave fully sewn up then?

Who are you to dictate what anyone else does with their body or internal organs?

    WHO ARE YOU?

A nobody. Thats who you are a nobody. So try not to make out your some sort of hero because of what you choose to do that others dont.

Jesus, I thought I was at a football match there. "Who are ya!"

Anyway, who I am is someone who passionately believes that people in dire need of organs should have every chance at survival. And that there is no valid reason for a person choosing (yes, choosing, before you come back with some straw man argument about those who unfortunately cannot donate) to have those lifesaving organs buried or burned rather than give someone else the chance to carry on in this world.

That really is the ultimate in selfish acts.

    Neither would I.

The only people bringing those who genuinely can't donate, like yourself unfortunately, into this thread are those who selfishly choose not to, then use people like you to hide from legitimate criticism.

They're trying to make it look like a criticism of those who can't, which they can defend, rather than of those who won't, which they cannot.

i have been on the organ donor register since i was 16. i have been speaking to people recently who aren't on it and got some rather bizarre responses (bizarre to me anyway). some people saying that they don't like the idea of being cut open when they die or 'god gave them to me, so they're mine'.

i agree with the sentiment that was banded around a few years ago that it should be an opt out system, rather than opt in. my own view is that once i'm dead, they'll be no use to me, so someone else (potentially more than one person) might aswell benefit from something that would otherwise rot away.

if you're not on the register, why not? what use are you going to have for your valuable organs when you're 6 feet under?

if you've never got round to doing it, http://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/ukt/ - it takes less than 5 minutes to sign up
I have 3 or 4 reasons for not signing up.
    1. Damned laziness on my part.:o

2.I am waiting on the "Opt In"system to happen as i believe it might do some day soon hopefully...If David Cameron pushes it through.

3.Been meaning to look into it...procrastanation

4.I used to have an organ donation card in my teens but lost it...dont know if they still have my name on the list or not.

Brett -As you have now brought it to my awareness and pricked my conscience I am now going to the web site you have kindly put on here.Thank you.:)

    No further excuses.

Opting In is the only way for this to go.What on earth is keeping the Government from taking the plunge and getting the bill through.
More education is also needed so as people know the whole situation surrounding it. Make it easy for people to donate.

I give up. I dont really need to hear peoples reasons for not doing so, if someone doesnt want to do something then thats fine with me and I will respect them for that. I wont judge someone for not wanting to give their organs - Its a waste of energy.

Ill simply be glad that they stick by what they want to believe in doing for themselves and not pressurised by people who want to press their views onto them by name calling and such like.

Just to clarify, if there is anybody who is unable to donate and is offended by my comments, I apologise and am deeply sorry for that. Do not take my comments on those who won't donate as criticism of you. Only an idiot would criticise someone who cannot donate.

You'll be glad they let someone die on a matter of principle? Odd sentiment.

Anyone is welcome to my organs when I'm gone. Good luck to them - I hope the recipients have happier lives than the one the organs have carried me through thus far.:o

But I think this is such a personal choice, that no-one deserves vilification or insults because of their individual beliefs.

I rather like the idea that someone else might be able to have a life because of my death. But I can't hate anyone who doesn't feel like that.

Just don't take any of the important ones before I'm fully unconscious; that's all I ask...

It certainly wasn't your comments that offended me. But some others were insensitive to say the least.

I tried to make up for not being able to donate in a small way by taking part in clinical drugs trials though, hopefuly that helped some others.

It's good that you do that, but I also genuinely feel that you've nothing to "make up" for.
