If you find a customer service agent willing to play the game-

Ask them to follow this process-

    -Make Sale
    -Existing Customer
    -Upgrade
-Wireless Connector, A+ sub if necessary

    Voila, free of charge!
  • Hi

Sorry but I am a technical thickie

    Skyinsider -

Getting lost trying to follow your reply having just ordered Anytime+ We have the phone point on the far side of the room with the Sky box and the router in the next door room by the PC.

Plugged into the main phone extension point we have a splitter which has the Sky wire and the phone wire. The phone wire cable runs into the room with the PC and is connected to another splitter which goes into the wireless box.

This is a fair distance from the Sky box and probably too far to use a standard length ethernet cable

just phoned Sky and tried to use the method suggested by Smackaine and the guy said he wasn't allowed to do that. However he did say that if I took out a one-month £8 subscription to Sky Movies he could send me a free wireless connector box and that I could phone back and cancel Movies tomorrow - so the whole thing would cost me £8.

Any ideas how to do this for nothing - which is what you expect when you sign up for the service?

    Thanks
  • I have been a sky costumer for over 3 years now, so when i heard about sky anytime+ i went and ordered it. Then found out that i have to have wired or wireless connection. and i can not get wired connection because my home hub is in another room, so i had to get wireless so went to order the connector because i thought it was free:j:j but found out I HAD TO PAYYYYYYY this is really, really bad sky i am a valued costumer and i deserve a free connecter going to try and ring costumer services and argue:) wish me luck:D

I'll be very surprised if Sky offer you their connector for free. Buy some Homeplugs from Maplins, they are far cheaper and usually work just as well.

There are equivalent boxes available under £20 - Tenda do one, which I helped a colleague to get working of recent. It is a pig to set up, but there are YouTube vids. Check online (e.g. auction sites) for W150m or W300m. The guy in work is happy with the 150, but the 300 is only a few quid more (I would go for it & say it is a must if your router is far away or has a lot of obstructions).
Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!
  • I rang sky and asked about the connecter and they said they had NEVER given away one they didnt even budge when i said i would cancel my tv sub:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::mad::mad::mad::mad::(:(:( furious about this sky i pay £60-£70 a month and i never seem to get ANYTHING out of it. :(:(:(:(:(

Just a heads up for everyone.

Sky are rolling out CatchUp TV (includes BBC iPlayer, itv player, sky1 repeats, etc) next month, which will use people's b/bands connections to show the repeats on their TVs. I understand that Sky will be calling this service 'TV on Demand'.

I am reliably informed that Sky will be pro-actively promoting this service during the next few weeks and will be offering 'deals' on the wirelesss connector for people that have their sky box in a different room to their b/band router. I have been advised that the connector could even be offered free of charge but don't hold me to that.

    HTHs.

    No router?
    No Sky channels?
    No HD?

    Really no nothing?!
You sound like my dad, "what, you won't give me something for nothing? Well ill go virgin then"

6 months later on phone to sky "sorry mr sky man, please take me back, virgin is poo!"

Cheers for the heads up sirmarcus, will keep an eye out, could do with one for the multiroom (its a normal box so can get anytime on it)

Sky are only rolling out the improvements gradually and only the newest Sky+HD boxes will benefit initially from the upgrade.
Not sure what you mean by "normal box"?

Sorry normal box = Sky+ HD box. I dont think you can get anytime on a multiroom box (the one with only one satelite lead in the back, sorry dont know the technical names for them)

When you say newest how new is that? The main box is from this years contract (Sky+ HD box) and the multiroom box is from last years contract (Sky+ HD box) so about 1 and 13 months old respectively, both machines are the exact same models as far as i can tell.
