Many people selling via eBay don't want to spend their own money in a Post Office when they can pay using the shipping money sent to them via Paypal. Printing and paying for it via Paypal Postage speeds the counter transaction up, the counter still gets a handling charge (if they do their job properly and put it through the system) and it's just way more efficient.

    Totally agree with this.
  • Tried this morning and neither the Royal Mail Online postage or Paypal postage is working - v v v frustrating as I have 15 orders to send out.

Damn this is frustrating I have a lot of large parcels to send and need to access the paypal funds to pay for these!
It only takes a second to say thanks!
    Remember: Amazon prices change quickly!!!
  • I just spoke to someone on their helpdesk who said it will be at least another couple of hours, but probably quite a bit longer until it is up and running again.
  • Still down now - has played up a lot more recently, although usually you get the "Not available" message, then I try again within a minute and it works fine.

Fair point about the Post Office not making anything revenue wise - but when you have 20, 30 or more small packets in one visit, it can become a very long process depending on the branch staff.

Only 2 small packets today :j
£9500 to go as of Nov 2011 :j Debt free by Summer 2012...I hope :rotfl:

Why not support your local Post Office and pay for postage ?.
Did you know that the Post Office you use gets a commission for each item of mail that goes 'pay at counter', but nothing for handling pre-pay items.
This commission is deducted from the running-costs for that particular Post Office. If the commission does not meet at least 40% of the running costs, then that Post Office becomes at risk of closure.

This was explained to me by my local Postmaster.

We do not need any guilt trip over local closures.

I wonder if it was your postmaster that told me I could not post my parcels from there as they did not have enough staff and it was not fair on the other customers that I held them up. My husband even tried and they turned him away too.

On that day I went home and opened a SmartStamp account and I have used it ever since unless I have to send something tracked, however, I'll never use that one again, I drive to the next one.

Another local one that I go to if going on a certain route charges me 'Small Packet' instead of Large Letter by fluffing the parcels up which irritates the hell out of me.

That's why I had to stop using my local one- I just can't afford it. They interpret large letter as getting through the slot without touching the sides- and will stand and argue for ages that whilst it fitted through the slot in the gauge they 'heard' it rustle as it hit the sides and therefore it has to go as a packet.

Started costing me a fortune as I had several lines that weighed around 520g and I was quoting £1.76 second class and then having to pay £2.61 when I got to the post office.

not when you are happy for PO numbers to dwindle.
just because its stated theres "no programme for closures"
doesnt mean they can't close of their own 'choice'
I think it is an occasion where consumer use is not the problem, it's the system that post offices are in and how they work. It isn't the consumer's fault that the Post Offices have a bad deal when it comes to handling mail that hasn't been purchased there. I would never go into a business where myself or my staff had to move any amount of goods around without getting paid for it, it's ludicrous.

well many would already have been in that business while ther goalposts were moved
PO earnings have dropped massivly in recent times.
I believe a delivery postie would be earning more than many running POs
  • I have just rung Paypal, the guy said that it should be ok this time tomorrow, they customer service advisors havnt been told when problem will be resolved. He also said that it will be difficult when system is working again as everyone will be trying to print the labels out and its going to be slow even if you do manage to get on !!!
