I seem to recall that not everyone heard about the bonus extension to February 2012 at the same time with those accounts opening in September 2010 hearing first. Perhaps the release of the higher bonus is similarly being staggered?

    Look,
They are not going to offer 3.1% to those of use who will move our money at the drop of a hat.

    ...

Then there are the ones in the middle.
The ones these selective rates are aimed at are those who might move their money if they can be arrrrrrsed that day, or maybe next day, or maybe sometime. So Natwest offer them just a little something to keep them happy, not market leading, but just something to stop 'em actually bothering to move.

This isn't true in every case. Their instant access e-ISA is still paying 3.26% for £30k+ for accounts opened before (June?) 2009, which is pretty near the top of the table. I keep checking the rate every month expecting them to quietly drop it, but it's still there.:D

It took them over 24 hours to get mine opened - and that was during the week, it could be longer at the weekend.

    Lucky you!

I applied at the end of last week and so far nothing has happened. I suspect that it is going to be a rerun of last year. Wonderful offer was announced in the second half of a month. Paperwork was sent by snail mail that has to be signed and returned and that was not actioned until the beginning of the following month. As the bonus did not kick in until the 15th of the month following the opening of the account a few days delay at the start meant a month delay for the bonus.

How difficult can it be to instantly (or at worse within one banking day) open an online account for an existing online banking customer with funds from an existing NatWest current account? In the recent case THEY INVITED ME via online banking to open the account.

If the offer of the special bonus is meant to increase my business in other areas (NatWest is not my main current account) then it is badly going to backfire. The longer this nonsense goes on the less inclined I am to give them any other business. House insurance? They must be joking!

Ditto that, not heard a peep, no paperwork through, no email or any sign at all that my application existed. Bit disappointed... :( As others have already said, how hard can it be - they must know exactly who I am to have offered it me via my online banking.

I did get an instant email acknowledging my application but that was all. Did you not get even that?

Application form to check, sign and return arrived this morning - together with booklets containing Ts&Cs for what appears to be every personal current and savings account that NatWest has on offer. What a waste of paper and postage! The only thing the letter didn't contain was the details of the specific offer that I had applied for.
  • Applied online yesterday, around 1pm (already go an ISA with them). Got confirmation of new account number immediately.

Logged on this morning - new account displayed.

Moved some (test) money in around midday.

    Sorted.

    Problems, what problems?

By the looks of things, its different account opening procedures for different customers!

I logged into my online banking yesterday afternoon, saw the offer for the new eSaver account (have only ever had a Current Account with them previously) and clicked to apply.

Application form came up with part pre-filled details, went through registration process, at the end of it I was issued with my new eSaver account number and sort code. Also said I should receive email confirmation, which I have not had as of yet.

Phoned up Natwest New accounts dept, was told the opening of the account had gone through and the £1 opening deposit will be debited from my Natwest current account after 48 hrs, by which time the eSaver should also appear on my Natwest online banking.

Although I did not have a account opening confirmation email sent to me, when I spoke to Natwest New account dept today I gave them my current account details and they confirmed the eSaver has been opened by giving me the account number & sort code for it which were the same as the details that popped up at the end of the eSaver account registration process yesterday.
