core and chop up a couple of apples (peel and all), sprinkle a teaspoon of sugar or fake sugar over, n a teaspoon or so of cinnamon and a handful of sultanas. (depends how much you like cinnamon). then microwave for 5 mins, stir, and nuke again.

this is lovely eaten warm stirred into porridge (which is my regular breakfast), or you can leave it to go cold and put on either greek or natural yoghurt. Either way, i usually do 4 or 6 apples at a time, have some with breakfast, leave the rest to go cold and pop in a tub in the fridge. A good (and easy) way to up your five a day quotient.

you can also add other fruits to this method - i've done a lovely one with 2 apples, 2 pears and 4 plums. yum.

Thanks very much for this. Sounds easy to make and delicious - and low cal as I am on a diet at the minute.

Thanks for taking the time to reply everyone!

Himmel und Erde (heaven and earth),

Peel and core the apples and half them, Peel about the same weight of spuds, boil them together and mash them up, season to taste and eat with cabbage, veggie sausages, tempeh etc. Trust me it's really nice it's a traditional german peasant dish.

As you are eating healthily I wont suggest apple fritters.

  • Hi - hope somebody out there can help

In his wisdom my OH bought loads of eating apples (I don't like eating apples so why he bought so many  )

Can I treat these like I would a cooking apple to make a crumble with? Would they need less sugar as they won't be as tart?

Really don't want to throw them away but if I don't do anything with them soon they will be past it and only suitable for the bin.
  • Hi, Helen! There was a recent thread with lots of suggestions here.

yes treat them just the same frezze when cooked in small batchs or make a spiced apple chutney
  • Thanks - really like the tarte tatin idea but probably not the best thing to eat whilst on Weight Watchers!

Think I will try to stew them down and make an oaty crumble topping for them. I suppose I have nothing to loose as they will only end up in the bin otherwise.
