    I've got a freezer full of frozen apples. If you stew it, it takes up less space but if (like me) you can't be bothered, just peel and chop and freeze in bags. All ready for pies, crumbles etc in the winter months.

    You could also make apple cake, apple flapjacks etc?

    I do a recipe which is alternate layers of fried red onion, cooking apple. potato and parsnip [all sliced] with 1/2 pint of veggie stock topped off with a layer of strong cheddar. Bake in oven 180 for 45mins to an hour. OH approves and he a commited carnivore!

    mint and apple jelly? or I made a lovely apple, cider and chilli jelly. recipe was on the waitrose website.
  • Apple & Cinnamon we have about 20 jars done and it is yammyyyyyyyy

    * 7 cups Apples (Peeled & Cored)
    * 6 cups Sugar
    * 1/4 cup Lemon Juice
    * 1 tsp Cinnamon

    How To Make

    1. Before you start, make sure that all the apples have been thoroughly washed, peeled and cored.
    2. Slice up the apples finely and place in a large saucepan over a high heat.
    3. Add the sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon while stirring continuously.
    4. Let the mixture boil for about half an hour until thickened, removing any scum that may rise to the surface.
    5. Pour the mixture into jam jars, seal and store away.

    Aril, that sounds like a lovely recipe, Will definately try that one this weekend.

    Do you think it would tast alright without frying the onions, just using raw?

    We have the same problem. We moved in here 3 weeks ago and have 4 laden apple trees. I have made lots of crumbles and apple cakes, but will borrow the freezing ideas too.

    However, we have been researching cider, and tomorrow is the day we start! DH is finishing making the press from a design he found online, but he has bought a crusher and some fermenting bins. Now, the only thing we need to do is start saving wine bottles for the finished product:p ;) DH has calculated something between 120 and 200 litres of juice :eek:

    I have just 'stewed' chopped up apples in the microwave with a teaspoon of rosewater............served with cream it was just delicious!

    The rosewater came from an Asian supermarket, but you can get it in less exotic (tho more expensive) places. Last week my daughter arrived with some only-just-OK figs from Leicester market, and I poached them with rosewater and cardamom.

    I am wondering about experimenting with apples with lavender. As I'm using windfalls I won't really lose if it doesn't work.

    I'm now hallucinating lavender ice-cream from Sheringham!

    I arrived home from shopping today to find a carrier bag full of cooking apples hanging on the door handle ( thanks to our neighbours) I had just bought some from the supermarket for a pork dish LOL.

    I peeled and sliced a large apple and a peeled and "chunked" a red onion, couple of spoons of honey and put the browned pork chops on top covered with foil, it was lovely. I would put the chops under the apple next time as it was just on the verge of drying out but you live and learn. I also did the potato and onion slices in stock which was delicious.

    Anyone ever made apple chutney in a slow cooker? I've made some from a recipe in the book which came with it. Advantage is no boiling and stirring etc so very easy to make. Looks ok, very dark but quite sweet and spicy. It's quite sloppy and I had to pour off some of the liquid which didn't obviously evaporate. Anyone any idea how long this would store for and if I should eat it now or leave to mature? Suggestions welcome!
