    HI hun

Yeah i use them to make apple puree, apple crumble, apple pie

If you batch make apple puree but dont add any sugar and freeze it in small batches - say in a an ice cube try you can have this with natural yoghurt which would be ok on weight watchers as a breakfast

  • Thanks for that Sam - I always find it hard to find things I like for breakfast but think I would like that.

Might treat myself to an apple crumble tonight though! Just have to not have cream or custard with it!

You can also add the puree to porridge which gives it a natural sweetness.
  • All,

I have some delicious, sweet, red, local apples (v small, like cox) which are raplidly going off and I won't have an opportunity to eat them.

Does anyone know what I can do with them?

    Thanks.

You could always peel them and cut them up and stew them down to freeze, or simply slice, sprinkle with sugar and a little cinamon and cover with pastry (bought flaky stuff would do) and make an apple pie. Eating apples work just as well for this as cookers.
  • Thanks everyone! That's great!
  • Oh no... I put the apples on, went off to watch TV, eat tea and ring my mum... and then remembered the apples. So I now have a very burnt pan, ruined apples and I may as well have just chucked them to start with!!!
  • I've just been given three huge bagfuls of apples from someone on Freecycle :j

Can anyone help with preparing them for freezing & recipes for food and/or drinks?

Any help would be much appreciated - I don't want to waste a single one!!

Ooh, lucky you! I was given a big bag of cooking apples yesterday by a friend who has an apple tree, so I'd be really interested to see what other people come up with as well.

I was planning on using the best ones for baked apples later in the week, plus maybe make a crumble at the weekend. If I have time, I will make a couple of apple pies and freeze them - I've done this before and they were lovely. I used the "disposable" foil tins you can buy in Lakeland to cook and freeze them in, and cooked them completely before freezing, then just defrosted and warmed them through to eat. And washed up the foil tin so I could use it again of course! :rotfl:
But if I don't have time I was thinking of freezing them just slightly stewed, so they can be got out to use for crumble or a pie later on....I don't know if this is the best way to freeze them? I imagine that if you just froze them raw, they might discolour, but if you stew them too much they will go all mushy when you use them later on. Does anyone else know the answer to this?

I'm also planning to try a recipe for apple and raspberry jam in my breadmaker book, but have never made jam before so don't know how it will turn out....hopefully it will be nice and I can give a jar to my friend to say thanks!
