Another recipe: I found this when looking to use up breadcrumbs. It is so easy to make but rather fattening!

    Swedish Apple Cake

    4 tbsp butter
    1.5 cups apple sauce
2 cups bread or cake crumbs
    1 tsp cinnamon
(I also added some brown sugar as I thought bread might not be sweet enough)

Melt butter add sugar and breadcrumbs and brown. In a greased loaf tin, layer crumbs with apple sauce, finishing with crumbs. Bake at 180 degrees for 30-40 minutes.

Another way of using up apples is to slice them and mix them in with stir fried shredded red cabbage and onions. Add a tiny amount of water with half a crumbled chicken stock cube to prevent mixture becoming too dry.. Let the mixture cook down for about 10 - 15 minutes until the apples are starting to dissolve. Delicious with some Matesons chopped smoked sausage mixed in, served with mashed potatoes.

Apple also goes well in butternut squash soup. Yum. Would work with carrot soup too I imagine.

Cooking apples and eating apples usually cook down in totally different ways. Cookers like Bramleys will disintegrate to make lovely apple sauce which can be whipped with a fork to make a nice smooth purree whereas Eating apples usually stay whole. A good way of using cooked Bramleys, if you add a little sugar, is to fluff the purree up and whip it into a Lime flavoured jelly. Another way of using up eating apples is to cook them with pears, a few sultanas, a pinch of grated orange rind and some orange juice. Add a pinch of cinnamon if you like.
  • Bit nervous!

I have about 8 Royal Gala Apples that are definitely not going to eaten, I know they aren't cooking apples but can make "something" with them? so they don't go to waste.

    Thank you

you could use them in a crumble or apple pie. I have done this when I have excess eating apples and even pears and they have turned out fine.
