I've looked into fitting my kit in preparation and founf that at my front door, there is no space to fit the door contact main unit on the door frame. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm thinking I either put a PIR at the front door or use the extra kit that the manual says, but this then involves wiring.

    Anyone else had this problem?

    Hi there,
I have an HSA3600 which I am very happy with - use it currently with 3 PIR's, not too bothered about door sensors, as if they get through by breaking the glass/panel, it will be none the wiser.

I'm oober busy at the moment, are the 3 packs of PIR's still available - there is no sign of them online.

I will soon be moving into a bigger house, and will need at least an extra 2 (Garage & upstairs) so this would work perfectly.

P.S Just tried to ring local store, tried about 15 times, phone was picked up and put down each and everytime, varied from between one ring, and waiting around 90 seconds - now that is what you call customer service

    many thanks

    Dan

Glad everyone has had a good experience with these systems. I bought the 3400 basic one from B&Q too.

    Looks easy.

    steps 1,2 and 3 where.

However, the siren refuses to respond as described in step 4 and I can't find the receipt to take it back...

I must be doing something really basic wrong.

Still, I might get through to the help line yet and if all else fails - I can stick it on e-bay!

Anyone any idea - is there an obvious mistake to be made?

I had the same problem. Could not get them all to synch.

Took them back and got money back. Put me off these alarms for good.

Took ours back as we discovered (before we put them up luckily) that the cat would set them off. Anyone else have a problem with these and a family pet? Really, would only be useful when we go on holiday and cat is in cattery or in rooms with door shut.

I did. I'm assuming there is no room on the side of the frame? Doesn't have to be at the top.....

My ceiling is plaster board so I just cut a notch out of the ceiling so the sensor could fit. I think its easier to do this than get the kit but it depends on what your walls/ceiling is like round your frame...

Hi all, I bought one of these alarms from b and q set it up on friday

Very easy to put up and is working fine in my house

Couple of questions for those that have this

    1) Does your siren beep once for arming the alarm and twice for disarming it?
Ours does and was just thinking if there was anyway to stop it as it might annoy our neighbours

    2) If I wanted to upgrade to the alarm that allowed part set function (home)
Would I need to buy a new system or could I just upgrade mine?

Sorry about all the questions, hope someone can help me
    Thanks
    Shaun

Yes the problem I have is there is no room around the frame all around the door except the hinged side, which I am not sure is good enough? Plus when the door opens it may catch the sensor..... The ceiling is also too far up above the door to work as the contacts / sensors carry a max distance of 8mm according to the instructions. I may just fit a PIR in the hallway instead..

I have not fitted the system yet, but have read a lot of reviews about this Yale kit false alarming, obviously this only happens when you are not there to turn it off and I don't want to pee off my neighbours. So at the moment I am dubious whether to fit it or not... BTW No one in my road or cul-de-sacs off has alarms at all, so I would be the only one!

For just such situations the wireless door sensor allow you to connect (with wires!) a separate magnetic reed switch and put the wireless unit itself somewhere more convienient where it will fit.

Have a look at Maplins website,

Where have you read those reviews ? If its off a professional security installer forum etc, be wary - they are reluctant to say the least to recommend a system that effectively does them out of a job !
I've read a lot more 'independant' reviews from actual owners, and have not found any major false alarm problems....

Thanks for the info on the reed switches Paul - I'll check Maplin out. Shame I may not be able to keep it all wireless! Yes the reviews I have read are on home security forums, so maybe biast towards wired systems...
