For those with Yale alarms.

In B & Q today they have reduced the 3 pack of Yale Wireless PIR detectors (HSA3030) from £69.99 to £19.98. In store clearance as far as i can tell.

Are these wireless alarm systems any good or is it better to go for the wired option?

A wired system is always a better option as there is less chance of interference. But there can be a degree of disruption fitting them hence wireless is popular.

Personally i would go wired every time but there is some good wireless kit about these days, specifically the scantronic and infinite systems.

It took us less than 2 hours to compete. As it is wireless it was far less mess than we had at our old home.

A burglar alarm is a deterent.... if someone wants to get in they will, wireless or not....

Certainly is... excellent system for that price, and you can expand it by adding other bits such as these PIRs as and when and if you need to.

You could even put a PIR in a shed down the garden if you wish to cover that too.

Just be aware that the HSA3400 doesn't allow for part-set (so for instance you couldn't arm the downstairs sensors at night but leave the upstairs ones off).

However you can if you wish add another kit (I'm looking at the HSA3800 off ebay which can be got for around £150) which will give you another alarm siren, more PIRs, more door contacts, and also a control panel which not only allows part set but by linking it to a telephone line gives you the ability to arm/disarm by phone and also 'listen in' to the house from a microphone on the panel (and talk back too). Quite nifty !

I haven't heard a bad review/opinion from owners on these (Yale) wireless alarms. The only negativity has been from 'professional' alarm installers. Not surprising really - puts them out of a job !

I've had the communicator alarm for nearly 2 years and never had any problem. There is a way to do this. Have the upper PIRs as "Home" mode when you add them and the downstairs one as burglar mode. Switch the alarm on in "Home" mode and the alarm will only go off if one of the downstairs PIRs are triggered.

You can also buy remote keyfobs (which have a panic button) if you don't like to key in a number , dummy siren boxs for the back, smoke detectors, etc

    Cheers
