I think people see Home Bargains as a cheapo shop, bit like Poundland, but actually they are clean, tidy and 95% of the stuff is well-known brands. Anyone who's not been in should give it a go, you'll be very pleasantly surprised. Most of our Christmas presents come from there.
And the stuff which isn't a well known brand here normally is in a different country and sometimes tastes better.

The only problem with the staff packing the bags is that I am one of those who re-use bags so have to keep telling them that i have my own.

I have a mental picture of you rushing to hook your own bags on the pegs before they pack them...... Yeah OK, I did say mental, I can't help it!:o

  • Got a pack of two 'Blistex' lip-balms for 99p today. 'Spa Experience' (:D) one Relaxing Plum and Vanilla, one Refreshing Watermelon and Cucumber. The blurb says 7 different moisturisers, SPF 15 and essential oils.

Whatever anyway, they certainly taste, smell and feel nice :)

Also Minute Maid Apple & Mango drinks, 19p.

I find the Chinese cooking range (hoisin sauce especially) is both delicious and wallet pleasing! (yum!!) :-)

Also some of the OEM electronic/homeware gadgetry they have in HB stores that is 'unbraned'... you just KNOW that it's the same factory that supplies Arg*s, Tes*o et. al and they've had a production over-run (non-exclusivity=low cost) and the product could be around a while in store.

On the other hand where you get a known brand at knock-down prices ie. Del-Monte 'world fruits' juice or (Mars) galaxy 'promises' chocolate bars et al. you just know that a known brand has over-stepped the mark by introducing something TOO exotic to its core market, and here you buy the over-spill!

    It's all good stuff!!:j

I have had a few things from Home Bargains (unbranded) that have had what looked very much like Argos or Woolworths packaging - as you say production over-runs.

The Cadbury's Melts bars at 69p - these are on offer in the Cadbury's shop in the Lowry outlet centre for 2 for £2! They also had a section of clearance stuff with a sign saying 'best before dates are just advisory when concerning chocolate' - the stuff was hardly reduced at all. At least Home Bargains practically give it away when it's past it's date.

The noodles are good at HB and look out for things like hot pepper sauce. They have some first aid kits pretty cheap at the moment - always handy for hols or the car.

Huddersfield yesterday had some kits that you could take an impression of a childs hand (not 3D) on one half of it with a picture frame on the other half - £2.99. Could be a gift for grandparents - or Father's Day?
