Dug mine out of the back of the drawer as well, excellent! Hope they do a recall of the very old black and white screen originals because I have a couple of those lol.
  • Just found mine but the website doesn't like my serial number, I get this message:

I have spoken to 2 Apple chat operators today (one this morning and one this afternoon) asking about this recall and what the replacement would be (ie another 1st gen either new or refurbished or a newer/later model) and on both occasions they told me that at this point they're not sure what they will be replacing them with.

If they don't know yet themselves I fail to see how other 3rd parties (ie articles) can claim to know for sure themselves that what we're going to receive is another 1st gen but with a new battery and new casing.

They stopped making this version years ago so if they are going to replace the batteries and put new cases on them they're going to have to start up the manufacturing process for this model just to make the new cases.

This doesn't make sense if they have the newer model already manufactured sitting there waiting to be dispatched, afterall we have all paid for the nano at some point anyway and although I can't remember how much I paid for mine it wont be too far off what they are charging for the newer models now.

Until I hear from Apple directly about what they are sending out I will not believe a word these articles claim to know as 9 times out of 10 they're talking rubbish.
  • I have registered for my replacement, even if it's a refurbed 1st gen it's better than the scratched, beaten up one I have now. Thanks Apple, and original poster. Without seeing it here I wouldn't have known.

Also worth noting that some people have been told a wait of up to 6 weeks for the Nano to be returned can be expected so don't rely on it for a Christmas gift!

If that is true I wonder if Apple with get them in, refurb and send them out?

Excellent service for a 5 year old product I feel.
As for paying over the odds, this is a discussion over the recall not a debate over Apple. If you wish to debate the pro's and con's of Apple products there are more appropriate boards you can use.

Where did you buy it from could it be a copy/fake ?

I have seen fakes before that look real.
