  • Gutted about this. Some to$$er stole DHs 1st Gen 2gb nano out of the car a while ago, and I'm in need of an ipod when I start work on Sat. Getting that replaced with a shiny new one would have been perfect. :(

Thanks - I had copied the details but can't find the email. Hmm - I returned mine two weeks ago and it is still showing as 'empty box shipped'. I guess patience is the name of the game.

I sent mine in on the 13th november. Apple acknowledgd receipt of it on the 18th of november and since the 24th nov it has been at stage 3 pending. It was delivered to my house before the apple site changed but apple did send an email to me early this morning that it had been dispatched. I opened it to find an 8GB silver 6th Generation.

I feel a bit disappointed - the thing is tiny and not even a patch on the other Nanos (1st gen or any other gen of nano for that matter). Looks like it could get lost very easily and I do not know how I am going to navigate it - my hands are small but this device is so tiny it is beyond me. I do not understand why the clickwheel was removed and I would have preferred a refurbed 1st gen.

Despite my moans, I think it was very good of apple to actually send a replacement out in the first place. When I buy things these days (especially technology and electrical things) I don't expect them to last forever. My 1st gen was lying at the bottom of a drawer because the charge wasn't holding and I had forgotten about it for a couple of years. At least this way I get a new gadget without having to fork out even more money. Realistically, in this disposable age, how many of us expected the 1st gen ipod to last 6+ years when we brought it in 2005?

I have several hard drive mp3 players all working fine.

I also have a Japanese radio that dates back 20 years.

I requested the replacement middle of November and it took them after 6 or so calls to Apple until beginning of January just to send me a box/bag.
Apples customer service and communication was really poor. They kept on blaming the amount of people requesting a replacement but as i point out they knew how many they sold in the first instance so it should not have come as a suprise to them.

Can you not trace it through royal mail?

I have tried to and it just says "
Item XA887342161GB was posted at Main Street PA9 1BQ on 26/11/11 and is being progressed through our network for delivery. "

same as the other 3 which are product replacement pending.

Got through to customer services last night and was told the 3 already going through stages had been posted (although I have not had an email as reported by others & site doesn't state posted) and mine had arrived on 19th Nov but was taking longer to go through system. I was just happy to hear mine WAS there however today discovered that the empty box was shipped on 19TH NOV & I posted back on 26th Nov so me thinks porkies were being told (& I lost my senses at that time and didn't click).
If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:
