Free new ipod nano - If you have a 1st Gen Nano!

Not sure whether this has already been posted but I did search for it - Apple have released information about the 1st gen Ipod Nano sold between 2005-2006. If you have this model you can check on the website (Can someone help me find a link?!) and get a free replacement one, of the new model which has a colour touchscreen, radio and pedometer.

This is due to a fire risk being posed by the batteries in the old nano.

So dig them out of your drawers and enjoy a new ipod!

We had one of these lurking around and hubby got an email from Apple informing him of this so if you have registered one then you should hear from them. We have submitted all the details and are awaiting collection of the old one then delivery of the new one. They said it takes about 6-8 weeks :)
  • just read at the bottom of the gardian article

"Apple have not issued a recall but are offering a free replacement, which will be a replacement first-generation iPod nano rather than a current model."

so looks like no new nano :(

Might not be the nice new shiny one after all on offer. Not sure where they will get all these generation 1 nanos to hand out, but maybe they have a stash or will be replacing the batteries in the returned units, putting a new case on and sending them out again?

Bottom paragraph of the Telegraph article

This article was amended on 16 November 2011. The original referred to the first-generation Apple iPod nano being "recalled" over safety fears, and said that owners of this model will receive a free current model once they return their iPod to Apple. Apple have not issued a recall but are offering a free replacement, which will be a replacement first-generation iPod nano rather than a current model

This was discussed on the Wright stuff this morning. But you don't get a new ipod, you get the same version but with a 'safe' battery.

    According to Mathew Wright anyway.

I have one that was broken ages ago (wheel stopped working, battery died) been sat in a drawer for two years.

Any replacement is better than the broken ipod I have now and will make a nice stocking filler for my son.

Thanks! By complete chance, my 6 year old son dragged it out of the kitchen drawer a couple of nights ago in readiness for his kids gym session tomorrow night! Have just registered to have them send me a box in which to send back a malfunctioning nano! A little bit sad really- this was the first ever apple product I owned!
  • Whoop! I just retrieved two of these from the 'junk' drawer sitting around since the kids got their ipod touches and we have iphones. Have registered them and will send them off. They are handy for when i go running..................................... next year.............:rotfl:

    Thank you.
    Your request has been submitted.

Apple will send you a box with shipping instructions to mail your iPod nano to us. Apple will then send you a replacement iPod.

    :j thanks OP :)

I have a 4 gb black one I hope the replacement is the same, don't like the white.

I use mine nearly every day so going to miss it when it's gone, the battery had started to drain fast so a new one will be great :)
