You could set up web based email account(s) (eg, google, hotmail, yahoo, etc.) and use them instead of Plusnet as your email provider. You can still get incoming email via Plusnet but when you send, it goes out via the web based service and not Plusnet.0

Are YOU doing this on a Plusnet connection? Can you CONFIRM it works?
This has already been suggested and the OP says its doesn't work - all SMTP traffic must go via Plusnet's SMTP server.0 -

i dont believe anything that comes from Plusnet. i have just tried to send a simple email with a pdf attachment which is a courier receipt to argos as they requested and this failed.

On Friday I responded to your support ticket apologising for some of the prior misinformation. Once again I'm sorry about this. I've spoken to the individuals involved so hopefully they won't make similar mistakes in future.
For the benefit of others, our stance on the situation is as follows (quoted from the aforementioned ticket response:Whilst we are happy to create exceptions for known spam reporting addresses like [EMAIL="reports@banksafeonline.org.uk"]reports@banksafeonline.org.uk[/EMAIL] and [EMAIL="phishing@natwest.com"]phishing@natwest.com[/EMAIL] there is no way for you to completely bypass the outbound spam filters. We are not in a position where we would be willing to add exceptions for each of the originating host's email addresses you're trying to forward these messages to.

Whilst you might expect this, Cloudmarks detection engine is pretty responsive and it's not outside of the realms of possibility that the spam fingerprints for these paticular messages were added to their database between the emails being received and the attempt to forward them on.below is the message i get when sending a simple live chat transcript to one of my work emails emails. i contained no spam or anything that would be seen as spam.
the errors for all email are the same apart from the subject title. i can copy/paste the whole messages and placed them in my webmail account with plusnet and these are sent no problem
The current Webmail platform has a local instance of Exim running that will accept the email. It will be rejected with a 5xx error further upstream though so I'd be surprised if these messages actually arrive at their destination.
We have a beta email platform that will be launched shortly that would give you the same visible 552 error though. If you would like early access to this then drop us a personal message and we'll see what we can do.
If you have continued problems sending a legitimate email then I'd suggest providing a copy of the full message complete with sender and recipient address via support ticket and we should be able to sort it out for you.I know with BE (for dynamic IP customers) they only allow port 25 (SMTP) traffic via their own SMTP server. However SMTP traffic can go fine via other ports. Are Plusnet the same? Or have they locked all SMTP traffic to port 25 only, and only via their server?

Our Customer Options Team typically need to generate the MAC for you. TBH James will probably refer the case to me anyway as I'm probably best suited to deal with it given the subject matter. I'll update your support ticket to clarify what information I need to look into the two legitimate emails that you're having problems with and will do my best to help get those sorted.

Someone seems to be peddling some misinformation. We specifically asked texranger in this thread if he was able to use an alternative SMTP server to send emails - his answer was No. This contradicts your response to my comment (that you quoted).

they also seem quite happy for their system to block legitimate emails and then for you to pass all the info onto them to see what they can do.0 -

How frequently is this happening? If it was happening overly-frequently then our helpdesk would be absolutely inundated (they're not). There are going to be teething issues whilst the new system settles in but we'll do our best to sort out any problems as quickly as we can!
I notice you've provided some of the information I asked for in my ticket response to you but not all of it? The date, time, sender address and recipient address are pretty important because I can't replicate your problem using the information you've provided so far. I can send an email containing the same text and attachment and it goes straight through :think:
