If you are bulk mailing to multiple addresses then they may detect this and limit your email service-have a look in their email user guide for more info about this-under 'tarpitting'.

As an aside - have you run a virus/malware check recently? (Just in case you have something on your PC trying to attach itself to your emails).

On that note - have you tried a different device to send an email via your account?

Edit: As per macman. (I must learn to type faster). :rotfl:

What AV are you using? I suggest you do a full scan for malware before doing anything else.

i use Kaspersky Pure and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

which Kaspersky pure is constantly monitoring for malware etc. and i also do a scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware daily

Does your "Sent' folder show any attachments to the emails that would take them above the server limit?
espresso is correct, why not switch to a reliable webmail service such as Gmail?
If you've been regularly forwarding spam using Plusnet's servers then it's not unlikely that they've detected this and put some sort of block on your email.

I dont allow any emails through with attachments, also get work emails forwarded to my plusnet email as it wont allow a forward to any free internet emails such as gmail

I agree with bod, see what happens when using the service on another PC. If all is then OK, that points at an infection.
You should be able to set up any POP3 service to work with GMail.

Oh well - looks like the thread title has some merit then. :D

Can you not use another SMTP server instead of the Plusnet one? (e.g. Gmail). I know with BE (for dynamic IP customers) they only allow port 25 (SMTP) traffic via their own SMTP server. However SMTP traffic can go fine via other ports. Are Plusnet the same? Or have they locked all SMTP traffic to port 25 only, and only via their server?
  • Just a theory:

Do you use POP or IMAP to collect your emails?

At the risk of patronising you - POP generally means "collect the email and store it locally" and IMAP means "get a copy and store it locally, and leave a copy on the server" and is popularly used to sync email on both a PC and a mobile phone.

That last part "leave a copy on the server" is key. I am wondering if it's not actually the size of the individual email you're sending that's the issue, it's that the total storage space has been used up and there's no more space to save another email. Would explain why it started happening suddenly and then persisted.

If you're not sure: if you have Webmail based access can you log in, check all the folders; do you see a load of old emails in there that you thought you'd deleted?
  • One more theory...

Do your emails contain a signature?

Did you add it around the time this started happening?

Especially if it contains any links, those links may be blacklisted, so every email you send is then blacklisted and caught.
