December 2011 - Grocery Challenge

  • Hi,
I'm off to get the last bits of Xmas food shopping tomorrow - probably will go early to try to avoid the scrum.

Just thinking about January's budget and I think I'll go for £125 (£25 a week and 5 shops in the month).
I am hoping to come under that figure as I have a full freezer and cupboard so it will mainly be fresh stuff for the foreseeable future thats needed.

My strike day from November is going to be taken out of January's wages so thats an even greater incentive to try to rein things in a bit further to minimise the damage.
And no doubt the New Year diet will be started - less spends on rubbish? Always try and fail fairly early on though.... this is the year that it works!

  • So .... grocery budget looking OK so far - mainly down to having no fridge/freezer for nearly a fortnight ..... downside is that spends on luches etc are up:eek: (usually £3/week as treat myself on a Friday - I've always run out of stuff & it seems silly opening new packets when they won't get used over the weekend).

New f/f finally arrives tomorrow :j but it will mean a big restock . Really hoping it comes early in the morning so I can go tomorrow pm .... really don't fancy hitting the sm on Christmas Eve!

  • Hi again everyone.

I've been paid early this month so January will probably end up being very tight moneywise. So I really, really need to join in with the grocery challenge.
I'm going to go for £200 pcm and I'll look forward to the challenge of that.

    Hello everybody,

Yesterday was my shopping centre town day and I only spent £1.14 on items within my set budget. These purchases were just to enable using up ingredients that I already have. No gift vouchers have been used yet and might just manage to keep within my monthly total. If so, I would be thinking about making this total even lower next month.

I spent about £30 yesterday, but won't have an exact figure until next week. I bought catfood in one shop yesterday which was £5.49, but it was £4 in Tesco so I'm going to return it to the first one :D

I am away from the comp for a few days but please continue to post your budgets - I'll catch up a day or 2 after Xmas

Merry Christmas everyone and thank you all for posting - I've found this thread to be one of the most helpful in reducing spends [Grabbit board makes me spend!! lol]
