Most coats I find don't cover the chest, which is what I want covered.

Would something like this be suitable for a Staff? (It covers the chest)

or is it hard to get a coat that fits the length and chest?
That was the coat I originally ordered but cancelled my order due to the company not dispatching my order. It seems to have good reviews on a few websites where I have seen them and reasonably priced too. I think I will order those again but from a different website.

Mine goes further down the belly - I posted a link to that one before I posted the 3 peaks - I think they have discontinued the one I have. Maybe you could get one size bigger though then it would protect the belly more than the neck area (if that makes sense). PAH are very good though and will refund or replace if something is not the right fit.

This one covers the chest, but is quite thin.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ANCOL-DOG-COAT-ALL-WEATHER-MUDDY-PAWS-REDUCED-CLEAR-LESS-THAN-HALF-PRICE-/130595043841?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Dogs&var=&hash=item6420278a97

I have one for my Sheltie who shed most of her coat this Summer and was getting drenched to the skin in rain!

  • I work in an odds a sods shop and on the pet section they sell hoodies for dogs  now I think that's going a bit far but I see nothing wrong coats for dogs, some feel the cold more than others, we live in an age where dogs live in lovely warm houses not outside (well ours never have anyway) so probably don't like going out in the cold any more than we do. My dad was out with our last dog once when she had her coat on and some silly old trout who is about 70 but dies her hair black and wears the most ridiculous high heals for a woman of her age came over and said that dog doesn't need a coat and tried taking it off her! hope you find a couple of coats soon for your little fur babies x

I am not a one for dressing dogs up but I have bought them a hoodie each just to take a photo - would never take them outside with the hoodies on or keep it on indoors though (I posted photo in the 'show us your pets' thread :) )

I bought two coats from Wilko's for the pups which are great for the price (fleecy and waterproof) but they'll soon outgrow them so will buy a more suitable one when I find one.

  • It's also worth bearing in mind that certain breeds of dogs do not have an undercoat, so having them wear a coat to keep them warm on a cold nights walks shouldn't cause any harm.
  • i get my staffie made to measure ones from Weather Togs (eye, suffolk). I cant find the website though - ordered my last one just before christmas and was up and runnin then so not sure whats happened to it. Website is www.weathertogs.co.uk but it seems to be down.

I've had loads of other coats for her in past but these have definately fit the best. If you can't get one of those just try to find a company that do made to measure as so much better.

The coats are great as fleecy inside and waterproof outside and made to measure so fit perfectly and have a little extra flap bit which goes up neck to protect head a little.

my staffie is similar in that very short hair and gets cold easily but she keeps warm in this.

I have one of these, bought from a local posh pet shop

It's easy to put on, protects chest, and the holes are suitable for either collar or harness underneath. Also has a neat little collar you can pull up if it's really cold or wet.

It is very very smart and cosy :)
