No you learn that as you go along. But we reckon anyone who has been on the brew for 2 years plus without doing any training or voluntary work is well on the way anyway. That's the calibre of recruits we look for.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

As an Ex seasonal employee of M&S Id have to say they are fairly paid not overpriced. I currently work for a retailer that pays NMW ( and for the first few weeks of my employment they found some loophole so they got away with paying old NMW rate and not the new one that came into play 3 days before my role commenced) , makes you work in cramped conditions with no heating/air con, which have resulted in constant sicknesses being passed from staff member to staff member, where customers are rude, abusive, and often downright offensive on an almost daily basis, where my IBS has returned after several years along with severe stress and exhaustion, where the lights and heat are so intense I i started to lose focus and become dizzy on more than one occasion, where I am experiencing nightly nightmares for the first time ever, etc etc...is it worth it for NMW ???scheming_gypsy wrote: »Or M&S... To this day I still recall my days at Marks as being one of the best jobs I ever had for the way they treated and valued every single member of their staff and always use it as a positive example in interviews. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

How many jobs do you think actually offer this? No position I have ever had paid or unpaid has EVER offered support, mentoring,training...TBH saint I dont think you live in the real world for the examples you give. Either that or you tend to come across the only companies in the country that do offer benefits or are actually positive.Whereabouts are you based in the utopia you seem to picture?saintjammyswine wrote: »Why should a company that is providing free training, mentoring, reference, entry on a cv etc then have to pay for doing this? What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

Overpriced M&S food made down the road from me by people paid £6.08 per hour and keep getting pushed to get more done.Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0 -

Strange, isn't it, that all those like poster above, who purports to want a job, can always criticise and take the "moral high ground" on large employers .........0 -

Because unlike most companies they are getting away without having to pay their workforce.
Ooh, and yes I forgot about the great "Poundland" entry on a CV, everyone wants one of those.0 -

But surely that is better than a socking great lump of nothingness - or do you think "watching daytime tv and scorning work for nothing jobs" looks better???
It would at least indicate that someone has actually been prepared to get up off their backside and turn up at a place of employment and carry out tasks for x amount of hours per day for a certain time!
I know which I would prefer to see on a CV!0 -
Just because someones been unemployed doesn't mean they have to have an empty CV and I certainly wouldn't a put down workfare placement! But surely that is better than a socking great lump of nothingness - or do you think "watching daytime tv and scorning work for nothing jobs" looks better???
