We might all be skint, but as a nation a lot are still fat so I'd say ditch the filling in the toast sandwich and burn a few of the calories locked up in the superfluous flesh! Could be knock-on savings for the country through less obesity-related health expenditure:D0

And the salt and pepper is 'free' in McDonalds!A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Where do they get their pricing from anyway? At 2.5p a slice their loaf would only cost 50p (assuming about 20 slices per loaf). Most people can't access bread at that price unless a whoopsie and certainly it is unlikely to be good quality, nutritious bread at that price.
3 slices from an average loaf at £1.20 is 18 pence. And for that price it is much easier to produce something balanced and a heck of a lot more appealing than a toast sandwich!0 -

When I was a kid, my mum used to make me banana sandwiches and she used to sprinkle sugar on the banana! No wonder I've got so many fillings!
Don't think I would fancy a toast sandwich. Apparently, it was Mrs Beeton who came up with the idea originally. There's an article about it on the Guardian website. The Toast Sandwich: Can You Jazz It Up.
When I was little a treat was Sugar Butties. Buttered bread with sugar sprinkled on. If I made the myself it was shovelled on!0 -
I love crisp butties.0
