Yea but I think they'd rather scaremonger, and use sensationalist stories like this;):D
Ok we'll all be skint, but wont need to eat crap like that, if we use our heads:D:D

I agree with splodger as well; I think it will become a necessity, rather than a lifestyle choice, for many more people to grow a few bits, even just a tub of parsley, some spuds in a corner, letting a bramble grow wild, etc.

We now have 3 fruit trees (1 desert apple, 1 cooker and 1 plum), plus brambles, tubs of herbs and potatoes, and I hope to share a friend's allotment next year to do a bit more.

    A xo

I think you are right. Rather than dream the whole allottment/smallholding we really should be thinking small. Even a few herbs well looked after will not only save a good amount, but they will give you that little buzz as having added something yourself, made a feast out of a few ingredients, etc. Even a few chopped parsley leaves with fish make the fish seem fresher somehow. Think small and aim to extend your repetroire would be good advice.

When i was a little girl i was considered as posh by the large family up the road because i had banana sandwiches where they were used to 'red sauce' sandwiches. They went on pea picking holidays too during the summer break.

how dry would a toast sandwich be?

if you can get a reduced loaf of bread at 20p (pretty common here) you can have egg on toast for 9p (20slices per loaf at 1p each and 8p for value egg if buying a box of 15) i'd much rather eat that than a toast sandwich and it has protein, or even jam sandwichs would be nicer so 50p for a jar of value jam says 25 servings with reduced bread is 4p

next year won't be much of a change for us i've already cut down the use of our car but can't possibly cut it anymore so the usage will be less but the cost will jump back up to what it was at thw start of this year before i cut down (does that make sense) shoppingwise again i don't think i'll spend more but i will stop overbuying and only buy what i need instead of bulging cupboards, this is mainly because we're hoping to move into a mobile home in a year or 2 and i really feel we need to get into the mindset first so we don't feel we're missing out because we moved rather living the same way as before in a new place

my kids love banana sandwichs and banana on toast and i can share a banana between them, yet most people now would see this as ''poor food'' because they think u need doorstops of cheese or meat in sandwichs
