I can half that price using 'yellow sticker' bread.
Tesco Value Cup Soup is 15p for 4, so just under 4p each + hot water, for 70 Calories. 6.25p if you have 1 sachet and 1 slice of bread.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

The Mirror are offering £200 to anyone who can beat it!!!0 -
I picked up some bags of pre-prepared cabbage and leeks reduced down to 5p from £1 at ASDA, so I bought 4 bags and added 3 Tesco value vegetable stock cubes 1and half litres of water 2 small potatoes salt and pepper. Cooked it all up for approx 20mins and blender half of it. 6 good portions of soup and with reduced bread weight watcher small wholemeal loaf reduced down to 16p from 69p at Tesco so for 50p I have my lunch sorted for 6 days. Why pay full price when you may get it YS0

Very true I have just topped my car up with diesel and it cost me £67.00 which will last me a month (hopefully) and so far this month foodwise I have only spent just over £22,(but then I am shopping from my freezer to run it down to defrost before Christmas )
I too enjoy a banana between two slices of wholewheat toasted bread for my breakfast Its delicious and very filling along with my cuppa.
Often as a child we had dripping toast with pepper and salt sprinkled on it I couldn't eat it now but then it did fill you up.My brothers had 'jelly pieces' (basically jam sanwiches when playing out with the other children in the street. No multi-packs of crisps for the post-war geberation. In fact I think I was 10 before I knew what a packet of crisps looked like .My eldest brother was courting(another old fashioned expession)and he and his girlfriend had been to a local pub and brought these crisps home.Mum was impressed as she said "well there is maybe only a few slices of potato in the packet fried up hardly worth the effort really, nothing there to fill you up" :)Multi million pound business now.:rotfl:0 -
that's disgusting!!
what about a very budget split pea curry? onion(5p), 250g split peas(25p), tin toms(20p), curry spice(er...1p from bulk?) and 400g value rice (16p). That's a hefty meal for four for 14p each and I would MUCH rather eat that than a toast sandwich ewww!!
Or lentil soup?
On my 25p days where I try to eat under 25p I have something like this with porridge(4p) for breakfast and maybe lunch too but preferably some quick flask soup(few lentils, stock cube, flour left in a flask for an hour) or nothing. Of course this is without any reduced finds which are becoming increasingly unreliable!Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -

Oh yes this is excellent if you don't want to use electricity to "cook". Mung beans, chick peas and lentils are all suitable and cheaply available. Just soak them in water for 24 hours then rinse every 12 hours, if you keep them somewhere cool or put in the fridge once the sprout is 1cm then they keep ages. If you're worried about getting ill then flash fry them or add to hot dishes like sprouted mung bean curry.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Well, since it's three slices of bread I'd toast them all and have a three course meal...
Starter: Warm buttered toast.
Main course: Buttered toast with salt and pepper on it. It's yummy honest(Or marmite or bovril) Something savoury anyway
Desert: Toast with marmalade, or curd, or jam.
It was one of my staples back when I was really struggling. These days it's a "because I fancy it" meal.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Sorry, Pink, I did look, but I missed it.
I must admit, I've never tried a toast sandwich, but as soon as I read the press release, I thought I bet the people on the Old Style board could make something better for that price! I'm not OS at all, but from time to time I do pop in here for inspiration. Really admire your cooking skills!0 -
if there's 30 slices of bread in a smart price loaf and the loaf costs 30p. That's a penny a slice, so i'll make their sandwich for 3p and then i'll buy reduced price smart price bread for about 10p and then make the same sandwich.0
