I completed the purchase of my parents' house yesterday, spending the early part of the morning taking a Transit van load of rubbish to the tip. Over the weekend we'd spent 15 hours or so cleaning the place so that if we were moving in ourselves we wouldn't have been horrified.

I left a full array of cleaning stuff in the kitchen, from furniture polish to washing up liquid to floor cleaner, plus clean new cloths and kitchen paper. I also left a bottle of plonk and a "welcome to your new home" card, plus various notes about the heating controls, rubbish collection, and the final meter readings I'd taken. Now I feel guilty that we didn't leave any towels except for a raggedy old one in the downstairs loo. I also left a note of my home and mobile phone no's in case they had any queries.

Our purchasers played straight with us, and I wouldn't have dreamed of messing them around.

I am so relieved that it's all over though, been a very stressful few months.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

It is making me feel loads better that so many people seem to think it is unfair to take things like the light bulbs - I wouldn't dream of doing it.

One of my friends moved in to her first house and the previous owners had left the bathroom cabinet. When they looked inside it they found plastic gloves and a large pot of vaseline;)

We found a packet of tena-lady, a packet of anti-depressents and a packet of threadworm tablets:eek: in one rented place. And I almost suffered third degree bleach burns after Mrs. B. tried to eradicate possible contamination

When I bought my house, the seller had said that she'd leave curtains at all of the windows. When I moved in, I found that she'd left one curtain from each pair. It didn't occur to me to ask how many curtains she was going to leave!

(BTW this was another example of christian charity)
You must have hacked her off, that's a statement not simple tightness

you calling me a trout. lol
  • What an ace thread! When I moved into my previous house the seller had taken all the curtains, lampshades and lightbulbs, even tho they were to be left behind, think she took them as we had refused to delay moving in (for the 6th time) as she 'still didnt have a property to move to' (apart from her mom's, sisters, brothers, and several friends who lived in the immediate area).
