I think it's great when you can be considerate like that. My parents left a bottle of wine and a note saying something like 'hope you enjoy your new home as much as we did'.

My sister removed everything when she sold her last house, light bulbs, toilet seat, the wooden pull handle on the barhroom light cord... She didn't even want them, she ended up giving the toilet seat and light pull to our mum.

I thought she was really, really mean. the buyer was furious but there was nothing he could do.

I hope she gets some bad Karma off that.... I could never be so horrible and always have left bulbs and carpets behind.

  • I wsh we HAD taken stuff with us. Most of it was stripped out and dumped by the new owners before they moved in - including a VERY expensive solid wood kitchen and new carpeting. In fact I often wonder why they bought the house at all!

A few years ago I pulled out of a house sale after learning from the vendor that he was taking all wooden shelves from the garage, wall lights from the living room & fitted wardrobes from the main bedroom.

I wasn't prepared to buy a house from someone who probably would have taken lightbulbs, door handles, toilet roll holder etc. before vacating the property.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I bet your mum was overwhelmed by her generousity. I can't imagine asking someone if they want a secondhand toilet seat:eek:

On a serious note isn't it now an offence to not leave light bulbs and to leave bare wires if you remove light fittings.

When my husband bought his last house, he found a note on the door saying something along the lines of

"I know we said we'd leave you the gas fire, but we changed our mind - sue us if you can be bothered. You'll need to get the pipes capped or a new fire installed before you turn the gas back on."

Thanks for the H&S warning...

Hope one day those people deal with a solicitor in a house sale, at least they may have the resources to take them to court.

    Despicable people who do that.

I am leaving everything I put down on the list and even keeping the place spotless, although to be Frank, the day we will move I am sure the place will get dirty with people coming and going and I wont have time to clean up when we are done.

We spent most of weekend cleaning back yard with pressure washer, painting outside wall, fence, shed and front forecourt and windows too.

I left and labelled paint tins saying "living room", "bedroom 1" etc. Handy for touching up if you don't want a full scale redecoration. I also left instructions for central heating, with notes saying how quickly/slowly the house warmed up/down, window cleaner name, rubbish collection day, names of next door neighbours etc.

That's a lovely idea Balck-saturn. :T I'll keep that in mind if our sale goes to plan (hoping to exchange in a couple of weeks).

I know it's ridiculously sentimental, but we have lived in our house for 16 years, with many happy memories. We celebrated our silver wedding anniversary here last year and and our three children spent the majority of their growing years here. :D
Whilst I am mercenary enough to have sold the house to anyone who could pay close enough to our asking price, I was soooooooo pleased :j when a local young couple wanted to buy it as their first home together and hope to raise their family here too. I really like to think that our happy family vibes will be passed on to them.
