I am going to keep that well known supermarket catch phrase at the back of my mind "every little helps" been having a good read of the old style board, I used my teabag twice, dug out a load of old carrier bags from the shed, to use for the kitchen bin, only had a few dishes to wash so didnt use so much hot water and liquid, I will keep doing small things , which will in time I'm sure will help.

Sorted out some more items for ebay to list tommorow.

Went to the charity shop today, its amazing, its a small village and they are sensible with their prices, I got a sealed dk french cd language course, says £25.00 on the back it was a £1.00, I just opened up an amazon account today to try and sell that, also bargain of the week, a pair of brand new with the label still of pair of shoes from Topshop price tag said £50.00 guess what they were 50p. So they will go on Ebay.

Hopefully next week when/if I have made sales I can update my total.

Cant wait for tommorow, I'm really getting into this, so glad I found you, god bless x:rotfl:

On modern phones such as the iphone and HTC Desire they have a barcode reader on them that links straight to Amazon etc. It's really handy when you're in charity shops or car boots to make sure that bargains are real bargains!

I'm glad you found us too as you've got some good tips here, thank you for sharing and keep up the good work :A xxx

I made a batch of flapjacks today from stuff I had in the pantry, so that's a week's worth of sweet stuff for the whole family for a no spend! Woohoo! They are really sticky and yummy and much nicer than shop ones, even Marks and Spencer ones. :-)

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm flapjacks!!! Can you share the recipe as they sounds scrummy :T

Yes, it's dead easy, and sounds shockingly naughty:
Melt 250g unsalted butter, 75g muscovado (or light brown) sugar and 225g of golden syrup in a pan, gently, until all dissolved.

Add to bowl of 375g rolled (plain porridge ones will do) oats and add a few handfuls of raisins or sultanas if you want.

Stir well until all the oats are coated with the gloopy mixture.

Put into greased baking tin (I use one that's about 8 inches square) and press down with metal spoon (as it all sticks to wooden ones)

Bake at gas mark 4 for 18 minutes.

Take out of oven and put straight into fridge (on teatowel if you're worried about glass shelf)

When cold empty onto cutting board/chopping board in one lump and then slice into chunks.

    Store in fridge.

    Ration. :rotfl:

  • To add, I use Tesco value butter, Tesco value oats and own brand syrup. Cheap and cheerful and just as nice.

I'm going to update my first post with a list of challenges to give people ideas, will have to be when I get home from work this evening though.

Mf0u has asked me to setup a weekly challenge for everyone... I will post the challenge on Monday lunchtime each week. Then it will start each Tuesday at 1am and end Tuesday 12:59am (I get confused by midnight timings.)

So this weeks challenge will be:

    No buying sweets or chocolate:

This is going to be a tough one for me, but an excellent one to start with as we'll probably all stuff our faces over Christmas with the stuff. So.... this week I challenge you that when you want to buy a bag of sweets or a choc bar, you put that money towards a debt. Whether it's 35p for a bar or £5 for a tin, whenever you're tempted pay it off a c/c or overdraft =)

*depending on credit companies you might need to save this all up until the end of the week until you can pay it off due to minimum payment limits, please always check if there are charges for overpayments. Have fun!

Does drinking hot chocolate count?!
    In debt no more!

idristhedragon welcome a board the good ship saver =)

loubie - yes it does, no buying anything chocolately, if it's already in the cupboard then it doesn't count

I may have just polished off the cadburys 100g bar from last night =-/ I was hungry, now going to polish off the cheese straws I made last night just because they're sat there. How I am not 1000 stone I have no idea.

Money saving tip of the day: decant shampoo/conditioner/shower gel into old handwash bottles with pumps, or get your own pretty pump dispensers. Water down to thin the soap a bit, then use one pump instead of a handful every time. Can also be used for washing up liquid.
