How long were you in labour?

    2.5hrs
2 minutes ( no errors -that's what went on my notes! Was in hospital due to severe SPD and i turned in bed and had a head in my knickers. i was in a side room so coudl only scream for help while trying to get pj's off. midwives burst in and yelled at me to burst her membranes and then 3rd stage. 2 minutes was the time they were in the room to all being done and dusted. then I fainted!)
23 hours but not painful.... then c/s. Later found i had early stages of cervical cancer so couldn't dilate - all since sorted!

I really enjoyed all of my labours they were all so different to each other!
  • 45 hours from first niggles; 16 hours active labour with pethadine, gas and air, contraction drip inserted to get me dialiated further and a ventouse delivery after being told my DD was about 8lbs and I actually gave birth to a whopping 10lber (no wonder I was bluddy struggling to get her out)... by the time it came to delivering the placenta and being stitched up I didn't give a hoot!

After that, my DD is an only child. ;). However, my friend had her 2nd baby last year and literally had to call an ambulance as he came that quick and she nearly had him down toilet.

All labours are different. Don't worry too much and enjoy your pregnancy.

First - 10 days overdue, induced, epidural, ventouse. 14 hours was 'established' labour. I had laboured for 12 hours prior to that, so 26 hours in total.
Second - 14 hours 30 minutes. Gas and air only. Induced.
Third - 3 hours 48 minutes. Active labour, gas and air only, water birth. Spontaneous labour.

The first two were born in hospital. My third was born in a community midwife-led unit. He's also the calmest child we have!

Just posted in the less than 12 weeks pregnant thread but wanted some feedback from people who have given birth.

My Oh had a go at me as I said I was feeling worried about labour because of my pelvis (i have synthesis pubis dysfunction) and he basically said loads of people have babies, you aren't special, shut up and that giving birth "isn't a big deal"

I said actually it is a big deal to me to be worried and in pain for 24/48 hours and then maybe have to have a c-section due to pelvis.

Well according to him most women have babies really quickly. It then came out his ex had to be induced so she gave birth in 5 hrs (start to finish)

How annoying to be told it is not a big deal and be compared to his ex. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Anyway, all my books say labour (for first time moms) usual lasts 24-48 hours. This is from early labour through to active through to birth.

So my question is, how long was it for you from start to finish? xx

So, you have an OH, who has an ex, who had a baby, and your OH has now 'had a go at you' - telling you that you aren't special, that giving birth "isn't a big deal", and that most women have babies really quickly.

You also have a medical condition, which your OH doesn't seem to have taken into account.

Your question today is "How long was labour for others, from start to finish?"

TBH, that's not the first question that would have occurred to me in the circumstances....

I hated pregnancy but LOVED my labour, It wasn't a normal sort of pain and you know that there is a positive at the end:D

Have to agree with you and at least you know that every pain you get is one nearer to having that beautiful baby in your arms at the end of it all.
I've had three babies but labour was never as bad as the horror stories I'd listened to that quite terrified me.
Just remember women quite willingly go through labour time and time again so it can't be that awful.
    Best of luck to you.

I had spd with both my boys, first i was 9 days overdue, 21 hours in labour then a c-section as the stubborn little monkey was back to back and stuck fast, i still can't get him to do anything he doesn't want to do!

Second i was induced at 1 day overdue due to my spd, labour was 7 hours on just gas and air as i wanted to prove to myself that i could labour properly after my first son so refused all drugs, hmmm i think thats where my eldest boy gets his stubborness from!

5 hours for my first (born on his due date).

2.5 hours for my second (8 days late).

    Both just over 7lb.

Your OH sounds quite charming. Having been a spectator once does not make him any kind of an expert.

Perhaps you should tie his penis into a short knot and ask him to pee out of it - that's if it's long enough :D. If not, stick a sowing needle through it and see how far that gets him.
