How long were you in labour?

There are three stages of labour, and it's the middle stage that is the painful one - and it usually lasts around an hour. Stage 1 can take days but is usually around 12 hours, and is not so painful. Stage 3 is the delivery of the placenta, and is a breeze.
Afraid i'll disagree on that! From the moment i starting having contractions they were excruciating. Though DD was back to back so maybe not a usual labour.
I was 36 hours from start to finish. Knackered by the end of it.
Tell your OH to knob off, no vagina = no opinion. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
When you say labour do you mean from waters going or what?0

My Oh had a go at me as I said I was feeling worried about labour because of my pelvis (i have synthesis pubis dysfunction) and he basically said loads of people have babies, you aren't special, shut up and that giving birth "isn't a big deal"
I said actually it is a big deal to me to be worried and in pain for 24/48 hours and then maybe have to have a c-section due to pelvis.
Well according to him most women have babies really quickly. It then came out his ex had to be induced so she gave birth in 5 hrs (start to finish)
How annoying to be told it is not a big deal and be compared to his ex. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Anyway, all my books say labour (for first time moms) usual lasts 24-48 hours. This is from early labour through to active through to birth.
So my question is, how long was it for you from start to finish? xx
Waters went on the Monday afternoon and I didn't have DS til the Friday........0 -
38 hours for me. (twin birth) Hugely exhausting but not excruciating for the whole time and worth every minute.

You need to sort this out with your OH before the birth. You need his unconditional support during labour and if you're wondering if he thinks you are over reacting you will be in bits. No two births are comparable and the chances of you and his ex having similar experiences are slim.
I hope it goes really smoothly for you.

No more than 6 hours start to finish x3 babies. You will be fine, though I betcha your OH faints!!
I found NCT materials very helpful about what to expect, and have you read the birth stories thread? x
eta that was 6 hours each time, not in total!!Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
DS 6 hrs (10 days late - induced) - Extremely fast and painful contractions, had an epidural and was 9cm dialated in 1hr
DD 3.5 hrs (3 days late - started naturally) - Much easier to deal with though painful, proper 'waves' of pain only had gas and air
DS was 9lbs 2 oz, DD was 9lbs 2 1/2oz and according to the midwife when she saw me for the first time when pregnant with DS I had 'good birthing hips' I didnt find this an advantage through labour, and to be honest had no idea what she meant and wondered if she was trying to tell me I had fat thighs! :rotfl:SPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £2470.95/£1000 (19) £0/£10000 -
DS 1 was 20 hours and ended in c section
DS 2 was 16 hours (and that was with a drip to speed it up!) and ended with forceps
DS 3 was 7 hours-not help/intervention and just gas and air
as others have said no 2 labours/births are the same-you can see from just mine alone that is the case!!
Good Luck xxx0 -
With DD I had some cramps in the middle of the night, went in to hospital just in case, had an examination which involved the midwife virtually lifting me off the bed with two fingers (iykwim
) which I think is what resulted in my waters literally bursting with a bang (I'll never forget the noise) about two hours later at 5am. I remember my home midwife used to say all the time not to have your waters broken unless it was absolutely necessary as the waters help cushion the pain, and I think she was right, because from that moment on, every contraction was so painful and I didn't cope at all. DD was face up (which is more painful) and I just completely failed to progress, so by 10pm it was decided to go for a section and she was born at 11.30pm.
All that nonsense was to be avoided with DS because I was booked in for a section, but my waters broke six weeks early, but this time it was literally just a trickle, hardly anything, and this time the contractions came much slower and were alot less painful, increasing in pain over time. After about the same length of time as I'd gone through with DD, he was born by section, at 12.30am on Boxing Day morning.
There was a thread about sections on here afew weeks ago, some report a very painful recovery, others were fine. I fall into the second camp - afew hours back from theatre I was up and about and in the shower, no ill effects.
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
I was really really quick. 1 and a half hours for the first and 1 hour 20 minutes for the second. I had gas and air with both.0
