Which cars got a chain cam?

The key phrases there are "if it's well maintained" and "require ... an oil change".
If you're buying an 8 year old car you can never be certain that those have happened. Even a stamped service book could be false if the previous owner bunged £50 to their mate who works for the dealership. I was also talking in more general terms than just cam chains in that particular post that you quoted.
I'm just starting to find that the "cam chains are wonderful, cam belts are crap" mentality on this forum is starting to get as bad as the "diesel is wonderful, petrol is crap" mentality that many people have and thus is worth challenging.
Generally people can only really give their experiences, mine are I have never had a fault with any car with a cam chain I have bought and I have never bought a car that is less than 8 years old. I have however had problems with cars with cam belts.
Not every car with a chain will be problem free and not every car with a cam belt will be a pain and vicer versa.
Your service history quote is a rarity and can be checked quite easily now especially if they are dealer stamps as you can phone them, just like I did when I bought my previous car and they verified what was on the system, what had been done, what had been recommended and not done etc.
To sum it up if your so paranoid that the cambelt/chain is going to snap or the service history is false, or the car won't be reliable and will cost you a fortune in repairs don't buy a used a car. Buy new with a decent warranty and sell it when the warranty is coming to the end. Even that won't ensure you have trouble free motoring though its the nature of the beast.
BTW, diesel is better than petrol, better MPG, lower VED decent performance from modern diesels what more could you want............lolEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
To do regular short trips and not have my DPF clog up?0

To do regular short trips and not have my DPF clog up and my DMF explode?
You just like to argue for the sake of arguing lol.
Pros and cons to everything mate what suits one will not suit the other. BTW not every diesel has DMF, a lot of petrols have them too and not all diesels have DPF so again thats not an issue for all.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Indeed, but it is still an issue worth bringing up and encouraging people to think about rather than just x = good, y = bad.
For example, does a cam chain suffer worse if it's run on cold oil, and if so would a belt driven car not be better for shorter trips?0
