Most manufacturers have now gone over to 3 year/36K mile cam belt intervals.
The Mazda 3/6 petrol engines use cam chains.
In the old days cam chains used to last upwards of 200K miles, if they got noisy, then a tensioner change normally cured it. Nowadays however, I have heard of cam chain failures in small/medium Vauxhalls (Agila for instance) as low as 40K miles.

Its uncommon though for a chain failure to occur usually a tensioner is at fault and can be fixed very easily, if a belt snaps it can be very expensive to fix.

Cam chains usually need very little attention and usually outlive the car (in most cases) where as belts need to be changed regularly and a lot of manufacturers have halved the mileage between changes in recent years some need to be changed every 40k on average.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

Most if not all BMW & Mercedes, Some Mondeo Diesels, that's all i know of the top of my head.

My old Mk 3 Mondeo 2 litre TDCi had a chain cambelt, but my Mk4 Mondeo 2 litre TDCi has a rubber cambelt. It's supposed to be called progress!

Would you buy a cycle that used a rubber belt to drive the wheels ?

You can buy a motorbike that does. Harley Davidson have had them for years.
