Tube Drivers are at it again.

ASLEF this time. Want triple pay for working new years day plus time off in lieu, or a strike.
This will only be more motivation for automating the system.

If we cannot reach agreement with them we should just say they won't run on New Years Day and use the money saved to increase the number of buses.

Nobody really cares.... except Londoners. And there's only about 10% of the country that live in London .... so nobody actually cares.

Taxpayers from the whole country end up footing the bill.

    I think you mean lever.

The safety aspect of the job might require more than that though.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

Dockland light railway can work safely without drivers.

I covered the issue at uni and the only reason the system isn't automated is people feel uncomfortable with driver-less trains. However now a days people are getting more use to technology and attitudes are changing, this is being reinforced each time the drivers try and hold us hostage.

They can't bring tubeless trains fast enough.

In the meantime, Londoners can vote with their feet and cycle.

it's boxing day they want the extra pay for - noone would care about strike action on new years day - but boxing day disrupts the christmas sales. that said, they made exactly this demand last year and ended up striking when their demand wasn't met.

it's a bit stupid if you ask me - it's not as if they were unaware that they might have to work unsociable days when they took the job. presumably there is a policy on pay for working bank holidays which they signed up to in their employment contracts.

what happens to e.g. nurses? do they get 3x pay and an extra day off for working on christmas day (let alone boxing day). i don't know the answer, but i doubt it, somehow.
