  • So the problem is not documented anywhere?

it was 2000 pounds, and i chucked in spares, and some off road stuff as well.

the ebay ad has been pulled. by me earlier. and i've no idea how to get it back.

you should be able to go into advance search and look at closed listings it should show what make was the vehicle so we can look for you
or what was the ad title

  • How much parted hands in money - I cant believe someone would buy a car - pay out money then take it back and abandon it - seems very strange to me to be honest - i think too he has done something or found out how much it will cost to repair however surely he should have found out the nitty gritty of how much it would cost to repair before handing over the money and sealing the deal

It wouldn't be the first time someone bought a car thinking it had an easily repaired fault, only to find out the problem was much more serious.

we thought it was a blockage in the torque converter, and he had a very ingenious way of unblocking it. I did say to him, at the very worst it may need a replacement. and i think they are about 150 quid.

I didnt put it in the ad, as its not been run. I told him at length about it both on the phone, and when he was here. he came a long way, and didn't want to waste his time. to be honest i didn't even think it would be a problem. put a few miles on the new box and it will clear itself. and this is what we both thought would happen.

This is most likely the problem as I've pointed out previously - he couldn't fix it like he thought he could.

the car never goes over 30 miles per hour (i drive it less than a mile when im late for work), and when i drove it before i put it for sale earlier on it worked a treat. but it was at the back of my mind before someone came and drove it. hence the phone conversation. and at length discussion.

the car has done less than a thousand miles since the mot, and it was Sorn'ed to save money for my wedding for nearly 18 months before that.

i think the new gearbox has less than a 1500 miles on it. surely not unreasonable to think that the problem had been well and truely fixed. when i ring the box repairs in the morning they will have all the advice on what it will cost to repair.
  • No mention of the damage to the torque converter, was this listed on the reciept?
  • Part of the problem is that it isn't mentioned on the advert so he can say it's not as described
  • Having looked at the ad, it's obvious you have described various faults inthe vehicle, but not the one which the buyer is complaining about.

This fault causing the buyer to complain could easily have developed on the way home after he handed over the money. In that case, he has no comeback against you. If the chassis had broken in two, he would have had every right to claim against you as you had described the car as having a 'good' chassis.

I agree. Lets hope it was documented at the time of sale.

mmmm but we talked about so much before he even came to look at it. the problem is the torque converter locks in at 55 miles an hour on the gearbox, and that is effectively your 4th gear. the box itself has 3 gears and so torque converter is 4th.

i drove it when i was first MOT'ed and on the way to my mates. it wouldn't go into 4th. but on the way back it worked like a dream.

its not been any distance at all since then. but that first occurance had me thinking it had a possibilty of reo-occuring. and i so i told the buyer exactly this when he rang. and when he was here. and i thought the problem had been resolved.

but it still played on my mind, that once again the car has sat for an extended period. and it may re-occur. and i didn't think that was worth mentioning. i'd tried to be as honest as possible about it. the fault was 6 months ago. hence i didn't go on about it on my ad.
