i'd phone the coucil and report an abandoned car first thing Monday..

I think the OP best cover the basics first. Make sure he is water tight with the sale and has evidence he disclosed the faults etc. If the council take the car and the buyer wins at court (should it go that far) don't want him to lose out twice.

Odds are the buyer is all wind and will collect the car when the OP stands his ground.

im cancelling my insurance first thing in the morning on it. i deal with a broker and they are closed on a sunday. i've never heard about askmid before, ill go and check that out. thanks

askmid will show it's insured as you're still insured.

not the cleverest idea. It's outside the house it's registered to.
  • Have you cancelled your insurance on the car? If so, the purchaser will have to insure it to leave it parked on the road. Have you check the AskMid website to see if it's insured? If it's not, then you can ring the police and tell them that there is an uninsured car blocking your driveway.

PS. The buyers hasn't got a leg to stand on As others have said, he could well have swopped something on the car (diff/transaxle, etc) in the time he had the car. More likely he took the car to a garage, found out how much it would cost to fix, and decided it was more than he had bargained for.

It would still be on the Op's insurance.

was this an ebay sale? and if so, did the ebay advert (or any other) mention the fault? (good) or did it say something like "good condition" (less good)

Looks like it was sold outside ebay.

Can we see the ebay add OP?

You don't need to go through your broker to cancel the insurance. You can do it directly with the insurance company.

  • How much parted hands in money - I cant believe someone would buy a car - pay out money then take it back and abandon it - seems very strange to me to be honest - i think too he has done something or found out how much it will cost to repair however surely he should have found out the nitty gritty of how much it would cost to repair before handing over the money and sealing the deal

Make £200 by end of January... £20.42/£200
Grocery Challenge £200 pm Jan £0/£200

  • when he phoned we talked about the fault, the car has done about 1000 miles at all since the gearbox was overhauled (at a cost of 900) but this was probably 2 years ago. i parked the car and sorn'ed it and since putting it back on the road 6 months ago its done less than a mile a day...

we thought it was a blockage in the torque converter, and he had a very ingenious way of unblocking it. I did say to him, at the very worst it may need a replacement. and i think they are about 150 quid.

I didnt put it in the ad, as its not been run. I told him at length about it both on the phone, and when he was here. he came a long way, and didn't want to waste his time. to be honest i didn't even think it would be a problem. put a few miles on the new box and it will clear itself. and this is what we both thought would happen.

im going to contact the gearbox rebuilder in the morning. he'll remember the car im sure. and
