Hi everyone, I've just found an ancient bottle of laundry liquid for washing clothes by hand and wondered if this would be ok to use in the washing machine and if so, would I need to alter it (water it down, mix with something else etc)? I live in a rented property and the washing machine belongs to the landlord so I don't want to do anything that might cause any damage!! Thanks.

I think that laundry detergent designed for hand washing produces far more suds than machine detergent, which might be a problem.

I think you're right, if you've ever used machine detergent for hand washing it doesn't foam up very much at all.

One of the chemists might be able to suggest a simple foam inhibitor, but I bet there's a thread somewhere which can suggest alternative uses. For example, maybe it can be used for washing up, or general cleaning etc.

I'm sure there was a thread on freezing, but I can't find it.

If I make a curry using a jar of shopbought sauce, some previously frozen Quorn and some mushrooms, is it ok to freeze? I'm not too sure on whether the quorn or the mushrooms would like it. If it makes any difference, it's not usually quorn brand but is Asda's own.

Morning!! Yeah, I've been searching for ideas on ways to use it but struggling to find anything. Will try searching again tomorrow as won't have any time today as I'm working a 10 hour shift!!

  • I'm making a potato salad from yesterdays leftovers - so far in the bowl I have potatoes, spring onions, chives, mayo, yoghurt, salt & pepper - but it just isn't hitting the mark:(

I've stared in my spice cupboard and other than chilli/paprika nothing is inspiring me.

What do you put in your potato salad to pep it up a bit?

I'm sure you've found out the answer by now, but thought I would reply anyway just in case! Yes, it will be totally fine. I do it all the time :)

  • Morning all, just looking for ideas on what to do with out of date waffle ice cream cornets and an unopened jar of reduced sugar marmalade? Any ideas please?

Does it have to be in one dish?

I'd probably pretend the ice cream cornets were digestive biscuits and make them into a cheesecake base or put them in tiffin or anything which requires crushed biscuits (as long as they don't have to be crisp, IYKWIM).

As I hate marmalade, I'm not going to be much help there, but anything you could use jam in might work with marmalade too?

    Duck a l'orange, of course ...

How about bread and butter pudding with the marmalade? Just make the pudding as normal but spread one side of each slice of bread with marmalade and the other with butter.
