  • Hello,

I'm after some advice, my nan who's in her 90s and lives at home could do with meals on wheels as she's struggling a little but she doesn't really like them and they are very expensive for what they are and are a bit erm, manufactured if you get what I mean. We live very close by and pop in and were wanting to cook her some home made old style meals that we could batch cook and put in the freezer for her so she just has to defrost and re-heat, we will cook her fresh meals aswell but didn't want to get tied down everynight as sometimes we have take aways or nans not fancying much for dinner etc. I've been trying to find a good book that has recipes that we can cook and freeze that aren't fancy, simple fish pie, hot pots, etc. Keep in mind my nan only had pizza for the first time in her life last year and that's only because she was sick and that's what we were having :rotfl:so forget curry or anything like that! If anyone has any advice on a book or a website ide really appreciate it. I love my nan to bits and really want to help her but without looking like we are taking over :)

Lots of good recipes here http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/batch-cooking

    Hi guys

    Can someone help me.

There I was yesterday so happy about how much I bagged cooked chicken for and froze the lot in portions and have heaps more from the day before and how I was sure I'd be under my budget for food shopping this month.

    Well . . . . :(

OH got out sausages last night for tonight's dinner and as it seems didnt close the freezer properly... I didn't know until my house mate (up and out waaaaay earlier than me today) text this afternoon.

I know I'm probably just clutching at strings but could it possibly possibly ... Just maybe be okay?

I know my mother and nan would tell me no and to throw it all away ... Hence I didn't ask them :D

    Thanks in advance

It's be too late for this advice but, if it were me, I'd go through the freezer and decide item by item whether it's saveable but you'd need to do it before putting the freezer back on so nothing that had defrosted would be refrozen. i.e. Raw meet defrosted? Cook and refreeze. Cooked meat not defrosted - it's fine to refreeze. etc. Cooked meat defrosted - needs to be eaten/binned.

no matter what cycle or powder my son uses in his washing machine, the clothes smell awful. not the fussy mum being over critical but bad enough to leave the room. the smell does not go after a while either, clothes he has put in drawers or wardrobes come out the same. saw an advert for something on tv you can buy but didn't catch the way and its bound to be expensive. can anyone offer some advice>

Are you sure it's the washing that's the problem? I'm wondering if it's the drying. I have to dry my laundry inside and I've noticed that if they dry too slowly they smell awful and have to be washed again. I've solved the problem by increasing the speed/duration of the spin before taking them out of the machine.

What sort of smell, and what washing powder / fabric conditioner is he using?

I ask because years ago we had terrible problems with someone at work, who really wasn't nice to be close to. Someone said that it wasn't so much a BO problem as a sickly chemical smell, and our colleague decided to change detergent and fabric conditioner to products with a less powerful smell, and this did the trick.

Also does the washing machine smell? If it does, then finding the threads for getting rid of that smell would help, probably.

Surely a quick phone call to your dentist is the best way to get an answer to this!

  • Hi everyone, I've just found an ancient bottle of laundry liquid for washing clothes by hand and wondered if this would be ok to use in the washing machine and if so, would I need to alter it (water it down, mix with something else etc)? I live in a rented property and the washing machine belongs to the landlord so I don't want to do anything that might cause any damage!! Thanks.
