Aldi - what to buy?

Nappies have now tried them for 24 hours (on the baby, not me silly
) and they seem great. As good as Huggies I'd say
You'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel0 -
I've various very yummy frozen fish dishes from Aldi - all every bit as good as an M&S equivalent but a third the price. I do remember their smoked salmon being excellent value - a least as good as Sainbury's 'ordinary' smoked salmon and of course, way cheaper. Many years ago I used to scour their wine section for bargains - if we had an Aldi within 10 miles I'd still be doing it - I found a delicious, sparkling dry white wine for about £4.99, which I tested on various friends and they were all convinced it was champagne, (maybe only a supermarket own brand) but they all guessed it was at least a decent vintage Cava.
May I also recommend their cut flowers as fabulous value for money.0 -
Not sure if its been said but the frozen deserts were quite nice when worked there, i know 1 was rhubarb with something and i think there was a plum 1 too but the rhubard 1 was quite nice.0

(Going round the store in order) Cut flowers are excellent. Put Lidl to shame. Ready to bake brown rolls are to be recommended. Their oatcakes used to be too salty but are now as good as Nairns. Veg and fruit always good, particularly grapes, green beans, pots of parsley and other herbs. Chicken - really good value when on offer. Smoked salmon good. Flora-esque spread, milk, cheeses all good. A lot of their frozen stuff is really tasty but I rarely buy unless I am going straight home after a shop there. Antipasta like artichokes in jars exceptional value. The thing to do is just add them to your list of stores, maybe visit once a month to begin with and try a few items. Some you might find unexciting and others really worth going out of your way for, but then again I am fortunate and have Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Farmfoods, Aldi, Lidl and M & S all within a couple of miles.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

I buy the following particularly
Steinhauser lager (brewed in Germany, whereas in most supermarkets lager is brewed in the UK)
Pinot Grigio
Moser Roth Chocolate (i particularly love the 85% cocoa version)
cereals
high juice squash
coffee
energy / isotonic drinks
elderflower water
chorizo
prawns
flowers
peanut butter
jam
face cream
sausages
I Avoid
Toothpaste
mascara - unless you like the panda look
feminine hygiene products
some cooked meats
sometimes the fruit and veg can be iffy i've found.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Love their frikadellen meat balls £1.89 from memory for 20, 5 is easily enough for a serving so a pack with a pasta sauce at lets say £1 and a handful of spaghetti gives you a tasy meal for 4 for just over £3 and ready in a few minutes even quicker than going to the chippy.0

The Champagne at £12.99 is delish! Not too dry to make mouths look like a hen's bottom
. I've bought two more bottles for Christmas, as at the price it is, it's a treat. If you can afford a treat, pick this one
I love the chicken too, and it roasts really well, especially as I'm not exactly very good at roasting stuff, lol.
Olive oil is excellent (it won a Which award) and only £2.25/L (iirc)
The beans are tasty, as are the chopped and/or plum tinned tomatoes. Plum toms are 31p/tin, chopped 33p/tin
£2.99 for bottles of Baron St summatorother wine is great. It tastes good when chilled, although I haven't tried the red. I didn't like the Italian white at £2.99.
I miss the flavoured Brie mini cheeses. There were 3 flavours and they haven't been around for ages.
Gratin potatoes. Yes, it's easy to make yourself, but handy to have in the fridge/freezer for a CBA evening meal.
Carbonara sauce is delish.
Mushrooms are good and value for money. The large portobellos are ideal for stuffed mushrooms, as most other supermarkets sell really flat ones where the filling falls out.
Cereal is brill. I use a combo of "weetabix" and "honey nut crunch flakes". Yum.
Sanitary towels and liners are very cheap and good value.
Nail polish is only £1.49 and stays put, doesn't chip easily. Nice colours.
The only thing that frustrates me about Aldi is that one can't rely on a product to always be there and sometimes they disappear never to be seen again.0 -

I like there sparkling Chardonnay from the French Jura region which comes in rather unusual wider, darker bottles nowadays. Great value and you may want some for the festive season.0
