How do I make my laptop "wireless"?

Hi Emuchops,
The routers are now sent out preconfigured with your BB username and password and wireless security setup (the security key is on a sticker on the bottom of the router).
As such you can just plug this in when it arrives and it should connect.
If it doesnt let us know but as all routers are now preconfigured there shouldnt be any problem.
Also if you ensure you setup using the new cables provided aswell.
Regards
Mark

Me again.
Well all the gubbins have arrived today, as promised by TT. Really straightforward to set up BUT when I'd got it all set up and was sorting the wireless networks I got his message:
"No wireless networks were found in range" .
I think this means that I have not turned on the "wireless" switch on the laptop (Packard Bell Easy Note R1935). I have looked online as I didn't want to bother folk on here again and it seems like a lot of people have this problem with this laptop. I have tried pressing F1 & FN, but that doesn't do anything. I cannot se a physical switch anywhere so I'm guessing its a key combination. Can anyone help please?0 -
Yes. You have to enable WIFI in you Laptop first and cross check whether the light in the Modem is burning.
After that you may be prompted once for the initial set-up and later you can work un-interrupted.0 -
Usually better to set everything up to work with ethernet, and then tackle the wi-fi.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

He means plug the cable in first.0

All the cables were/are plugged in as far as I am aware?0

Have you got a cable going from the new router to the laptop?
Is it a USB cable, or is it something else (probably yellow)?
If it's the "something else" option, then that's an ethernet cable and you're doing what macman suggested.
If so, can you access the internet?
If so, the router is working.
You now need to try without this cable and see if you can get the wireless working.
If you've got the ethernet cable attached between the new router and the laptop and you can't get to the internet then you need to stop looking at wireless settings and figure out (somehow) why this isn't working.
If you haven't got the ethernet cable attached between your new router and laptop then macman is suggesting you attach this and see if you can get it working like that for now.0 -
So your internet connection is working OK via ethernet cable then?
Edit: jimmy beat me to it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I am using the new router, and it came with a yellow cable that you can use if not going wireless. Thats what I'm using as when I try without it I cannot get on the internet.
I'm not sure if I've switched the laptop to wireless although pressing F1 and FN seems to be the way to do it according to what Ive read today. So i've done that several times.
When I try to view the available wireless networks it says that none are found.
Perhaps I'll have to give up on free ranging.0
