Nothing else available in your area? Broadband Checker
For how long are you tied in? Rubbish they have left you with such a modem.

Assuming you are out of contract, ring them up, say that you have a new laptop, and need a wireless router, can they provide one FOC to you as a loyal TT customer? They will probably do so in return for a new 12m contract.
Or leave TT, join a decent ISP and they will give you one free. That's the preferred option of course.:D
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

They gave a new router when I asked nicely, despite the stick they seem to get I've always found TT OK.

That is easier said than done, especially if on full LLU (which a lot of TT/ex-tiscali customers (like me ;) ) are)....very rare to find another LLU operator willing to directly take over an existing LLU'd line without having to do a return to BT and the minimum 12-month line rental that goes with it :(
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

LLU line with a USB 1.1 modem? Will be interesting to read more about the OP's line quality.

Hmm..good point. I should point out that TT and tiscali didn't automatically send out new hardware to customers when it got a bit old or even when a new contract was taken up, especially a few years ago.

OP, to get your line stats from that modem, open the DSLMon prog (double-click on the large green arrow in the notification area if I remember correctly) and then press Alt & D together, this should give your line stats (connection speed, attenuation and snrm). Could you post that info up here ?? That would be a good start :)

    Thanks for your help.
I cannot find anything apart from the Attenuation speed-24db. I'm not sure if they're of any use but the Transmit Line RAte is 448kbps and the Receive Line Rate is 4832 kbps and Data rate is 0. What is LLU-I'm guessing its Landline something?
