MSE News: Barclaycard to fix Egg credit card transfer problems

The direct debit on my closed Egg account was supposed to go on 5 Dec against a payment due date of 13 Dec, or so it appeared. Suffice it to say nothing has happened and a couple of calls to Barclaycard have resulted in conflicting advice, the first saying the dd wouldn't come into action until the next statement (how was I supposed to know this) and that I should make a manual payment, and the second reassuring me that the dd will be taken on the due date of 13 Dec and that no action is needed on my part. As things stand currently, although the dd is listed in my HSBC account, no amount is pending. So what do I do? Should I call Barclaycard again, should I make a payment, or should I wait until tomorrow - 12 Dec- and make a faster payment if the dd is still not showing?0

I have always had direct debits go out on the date that it is setup for, not before. If the Barclaycard website says its due on the 13th then it will be taken on the 13th.0

KTF thanks, having spoken again today to Barclaycard they have told me the direct debit will happen as planned and that the process of requesing the payment has begun. So all I can do is wait and see. Bit unnerving so get two entirely different versions of events from Barclaycard, but maybe not surprising.0

Nickfarmer1, did you previously have a D/D set up? I presume not as you say you've been unable to make a payment - they will argue that you could have made at least a minimum payment by faster payment although it sounds like you don't even have the new card number which is normally used in the reference field - no doubt if you used the old egg number they could link it.
Check your credit file if you miss a payment and ensure they correct this if it is their error you couldn't pay. Otherwise (no matter how small the missed amount) it will stay on there for 6 years after the account is closed.0 -
I thought a DD was mandatory for Egg? in which case it should have gone through.0

This is a bit of a joke isn't it!
After negotiating the registration system with its weird sense of what constitutes security, I was able to log in and check a few details.
Friday 9th December decided to check the system, only to find it was reporting "System Error", phoned the help desk, usual rigmarole, still unable to login, eventually left it over the weekend, only to find its still a problem today, so again called the helpdesk, whilst waiting I did a Google search for "Barclays website problems 2011" and oh dear.......
Help desk reply to; was there an ongoing problem? No Sir nothing reported .. so I pointed out the fact that it wasn't working Friday and it appears not to have been working for at least a Month since the problem appeared in the Press....
excuses follow, still unable to login - now of course I'm wondering if I'll be hit with an interest charge... I wonder just how many people are being affected ?0 -

I thought it was fine. What's your beef?still unable to login - now of course I'm wondering if I'll be hit with an interest charge
Why will you be hit with an interest charge just because you can't log in?
Don't you have a DD?0 -

Don't you have a DD?
If you don't understand what constitutes a good password/code then the Wikipedia entry is a good starting point - wikipedia.org/wiki/Password_strength
Yes I do have a DD for the whole amount, that hasn't stopped Barclays charging interest it seems on the transferred accounts ..
Also the fact that I haven't been able to login for 4 days and counting ....
Thats my beef!0 -
Yes I do have a DD for the whole amount
Have you raised a complaint?
I haven't got a lot of time to discuss the username/password issues, but ultimately if you aren't happy with the service, then get a credit card somewhere else.
I'm pretty sure that's what I'll be doing.0 -
Yes a complaint was raised, and yes the DD was taken, but that according, to the previous posts on this board, doesn't seem to have stopped interest charges being raised. Or do you know better ?0
