what makes me not give up completely is the running joke that i have with my husband that the 42" television i want could be winging its way to me soon but definitely won't if i don't enter any. :)

There are some jammy people (probably not enough) on MSE that do manage against all the odds to come out TOPS more than once!!!

I am one of the ones that just makes up the numbers!!

I have only managed to win a bag of crazy skittles this year!!! (almost like a comedy booby prize - remember 321 with Ted Rogers !! ???)

There was even somebody on MSE that won a book and was complaining about winning it!!! (others would have been very glad)

There were 35,000 entries for the Australian trip with 10-20 winners!

So I guess you have to been in it to win it but the odds are stacked against YOU!!!
  • you have as much chance of winning as anyone else who enters, one thing is for certain, if you dont enter you definitely WONT win

i agree with those that say if you dont enjoy entering comps then it would be a waste of time

i personally love entering, i love thinking 'i could win this' or omg how would i react if i won ........

last month i won tickets to see my football team newcastle united in one of their biggest games of the season (against man u) i would never have won those had i not entered, i didnt think i would ever win football tickets but it happened and when it did it was the best feeling in the world

i love checking my emails/facebook/twitter daily, i do admit if there is no WEM there i do feel a bit deflated but i know theres always tomorrow
  • Don't give up! If you don't mind me asking on average how many competitions do you enter in a day? It may be that your not entering enough? Just a thought. Sending you lots of luck I hope you get a big win soon that will give you that boost to keep at it

Well unless you've been lurking for a few years you ain't really been here that long, so maybe give it time? Or you could have a break for a while & just do the freebies, some of these can be as good as, if not better than wins. I believe that a few of us are having quiet times, & have been for a few months.

What a lovely, supportive bunch you all are! I love comping and wasn't thinking of giving up but you've even cheered me up!!

Don't give up - that ITV win is just around the corner :rotfl:

  • I definitely agree with the people that are saying the fun is in the entering. I drive my fiance mad by constantly asking him 'Hon, could we do with another sofa?' or 'If I win this Xbox and give it to you, you have to buy me something extra pretty for Christmas!'. It's fun imagining what you would do with the prizes- if I enter jewellery comps I plan the outfit they'll go with, if I enter a holiday I freak out because 'where will I find a bikini at this time of year???'. I'm definitely not in it for the winning because, well, then it *would* get depressing. It's made checking my post a ton more fun and given me something to do while the other half is shooting zombies on the Playstation!

I'm so sorry you're feeling disheartened. I definintely think you need a bit of a break. My best inspiration is the IWIWIW board. I love seeing how happy wins make people, even little ones. I won a mug on the Tassimo comp and it made my week! It's the buzz of the winning I crave. Don't see it as a job or a chore, see it as something to do while you chill in front of the tv or with a glass of vino at night (I've entered more than a few comps tipsy!).

I hope your luck comes soon :)

I've been comping for almost a year now and had some fab wins, some small but nice wins and some dry spells. But, I actually enjoy doing the comps and the excitement of the next WEM, unexpected parcel delivery or phone call informing me of a win. I think though, that if I got that way that it wasn't fun any more I would definitely have a break from it. Hopefully you'll get a nice WEM tomorrow to restore your faith but if not maybe it's time for you and comping to go your separate ways. Good luck :)

Honestly? I know scientists claim there is no such thing as "luck" but there is definitely something - otherwise how do you explain the fact that some people win over and over again whilst others win nothing?

I have NEVER won a holiday whilst others regularly win 5 or 6 a year.

I have NEVER won vouchers whilst others repeatedly get them.

I have NEVER won an iPad but some folk have won two or three. (EDITED - yup, the day after I wrote this I won one! LOL)

BUT - I do have a ridiculously happy marriage and wake up every day thankful that I have found my soul mate whilst some folk spend a lifetime searching for theirs. So I just take it that I am lucky in love - even if not so lucky with comps or health or finance! :rotfl:

Sometimes you just have to accept that you are cursed with bad comping luck - 90% of the things I have won have either not turned up and I've spend ages chasing the prize or things that HAVE turned up have been wrong! I won a hamper supposedly worth £120 and I got a jar of chutney instead
