Signed, England is already the most overcrowded country in Europe and if you think the public services are bad now just wait until we have millions more using there services and lets not forget immigrants also have more children exacerbating the problem even more. Just under 25% of all births are now to a woman born outskide the UK (which will be worse if we just looked at England).
The world already has 7 billion living on it all wanting food, gas, oil & water. The key to shortages and climate change is getting this under control.0 -

I was about to question that as it sounded way to high, but it would appear to be roughly correct (http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2010/may/25/birth-rate-statistics-england-wales)
I must admit that stat really suprised me, and was about to question you over it.
Wow, that is staggering.0 -
the e-petition will makae no difference
we can't refuse eu nationals in any event and we have no effective way of keeping anyone else out either0 -

The problem will be in a few decades' time when we have the same population as now but with a much higher proportion of non-working/retired people. Demographic timebomb and all that.0 -
I a bit confused about what sort of debate this petition is meant to trigger.
One about immigration? Oh yeah, they never discuss that. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

On its own your probably not,but each time these e-petitions are debated and no action is taken it will eventually shame the elected politicians into acting. We seem to have lost what democracy means which is "Government by the will of the people".
How long can they carry on ignoring public opinion, The UK should determin who is allowed in and who isn't.0 -

No it won't.
They can't block EU citizens.
They can try and block British Nationals whose partners are non-UK/EU passport holders but the government of the day will waste money being taken to the ECHR.
They can pay lip-service to blocking workers with skills businesses say they need but as soon as those businesses offer the said politician in charge money or their partner a high paying role they roll over.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Your right immigration has no relevance to a population increase has it? Silly me lol
Yes without getting our own borders back we have no chance of any control. Lets hope all the tripe about passports this week allows a debate on what power we may be able to grab back from Europe including having a say on who can and can't arrive.0 -

There would have to be a credible alternative political party that supported leaving the EU and abandoning the human rights legislations before the three main parties politicians introduced effectively immigration laws.0
