Its very depressing to fill up the car more than once a week!
I can believe that. I also hear that changing cars makes a dramatic difference. As an example, a work colleague who's just about to retire bought a newish secondhand car to replace his current banger and managed to double his fuel efficiency overnight. That said, I appreciate that newish cars are a heck of an expense!0 -
My car is very fuel efficient - I have a one year old Golf TDI - I can get around 60 mpg, which is great. However, since the cost of fuel is so high, it still costs me a small fortune if I actually use the car to go anywhere. I spent just over £60 on filling it up and have less than half a tank left. It's good if I compare it to other cars I have owned though....
My family are up North ish and I'm from further up North myself. I moved to where I am now around 16 years ago.
I do quite fancy moving up North to be close to family its just such an upheaval for everyone, so I need to give it some thought.....
Some paypal money came through today from a couple of the sales last week - so I've put 50% in the saves account and the rest as a mortgage OP.0 -
Ooh yeah fuel is awful, when we go anywhere far away now I try and make sure we spend a couple of days there to make the most of the travelling costs. Its very depressing to fill up the car more than once a week!
I'm totally biased but the North is completely the 'place to be'
I'm biased too, but I do find the people up North so much friendlier in comparison to lots of the people I encounter both in the area I live and also when i go down to London. To be fair you could keel over and die in London and everyone would just continue to go about their daily business. If you were lucky they would at least walk around your dead body as appose to trampling straight over it (although they would be sure to tut at the inconvenience).
I'd like to apologise to in advance - I know not all people in London are like this and its a very sweeping statement.....0 -

I always found it to be true
It's nothing new, Engels wrote about it in 'The Condition of the Working Class in England in 1844' :rotfl:0 -
When I went to London, I expected that to be true but for the most part it wasn't - especially the cabbies in London (who were right Cockney Geezers and lovely!) - think we were just lucky!
My car is quite fuel efficient too and a 1.2 litre engine but as you say its the price of fuel that is a killer, don't know how people can drive 1.8 and 2.0 litre engines these days with the price of fuel!0 -
The cabbies are definitely an exception - they are always very friendly and I always end up having a nice chat with them!
My car is a 2 litre but it's diesel and fairly efficient/economical etc - the price of fuel is just insane though. It's less than half the price when you go to the States..... makes me really annoyed.0 -

I know - its amazing the difference in climate with just a hundred miles or so..... I'm working on DH but he doesn't seem to excited about the idea!
Although, if I was to be in cooler climes I would definitely require the super duper waterproof Uggs.
Wedding - I recycled. I bought a nice dress earlier this year and it did very nicely. I didn't buy anything new at all - just cobbled together some bits and pieces and it did the trick nicely. I'm sure that if would have bought a new wedding outfit, it would have cost me approx £235......0
