I have been lurking now and again and Bitsey do you put lids on chutney? Can you just use a wax disc and a film lid with a rubber band? I want to make chutney but I am a bit unsure.

    Gintot

I use jar lids with mine with a small disc of cereal packet paper masquerading as a proper waxed disc in top :rotfl:
I would imagine a film lid will be fine as long as you're not keeping it for probably 9 months maybe?

    Hello all.
Am v out of touch as not been well so have missed a few days - so will just say big hugs to all those that could do with one, and hope you're all doing ok.
Am back at work today but still feeling pretty rotten... still, will be calling it a day early today so hopefully only about an hour and a half left to go.
Have soooo mcuh to get done this evening though as didn't manage anything over the weekend other than feeling sorry for myself. As a minimum I need to change the beds, sort the ironing and clean the bathroom. Would much rather just go home and sleep though.
Right, had best stop whinging and actually get on with things. Guess in the grand scheme of things a bit of lurgy really isn't that bad, I should keep some perspective!
Am looking forward to spag bol tonight - need some comfort food.
    Take care all x.

LOL it's not just teenage girls, you should have seen my FB status' last night :rotfl::rotfl:

It went OK, I may have a CM to pass them all onto so fingers crossed there. My onion chutney recipe is:
    2kgs onions
    750ml malt vinegar
800g soft brown sugar (but actually I think I shall just use white :o)
    1 tsp salt
    2 bay leaves
    2 tbs chopped thyme

if memory serves though I just used onions, vinegar, sugar :o:o tasted bl00dy lush to me and my mum didn't complain ;)

Been food shopping which just squeaked in under the £50 limit, mind you £2 belongs to stuff for my mum and £5 was a new dressing gown for DD for Xmas. OK she'll think it's a totally naff present but tough :rotfl:
So am slowly putting away shopping, got bread proving in the airing cupboard as quite frankly it's the warmest place in the house , need to vac, take DD to school, dust and a heap of other things. Mantra is though I HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD ;)

Not sure about tea. Something with pasta I think.

JackieG - in a pinch you can use a plastic card to scrape frost off, eg a tesco clubcard and the like. I don't recommend you use your debit card though in case you damage it :rotfl: works pretty well as I have done it myself. Feel better soon and I hope DS didn't get into trouble xx

NPM - well done Noah on the pants :T Baby steps is the way to go otherwise it's too much too soon xx

Tappers - glad you're going to see your Dr xxx

beemuzed - EG is around on FB so perhaps just a bit busy to post.

Hugs and spoons all round. Have a good day OS or not.

thanks for the recipie as ive just made chutney and it needed balamic and red wine vinegar, so ive emptied the stor cupboard but will defo make yours next xxx
had a lovely baking day, made mince and onion and carrot (shhh and quorn) pasties, some quiches and cakes for the rest of the week and had a clean through, so off to gp for ds flu jab then off to run brownies but then a nice cuppa and catch up of the tv later, off tom, so making some crafty things for the pta and brownie and fete with an old friend so will be nice to catch up x
hope everyone has a quiet evening too xxxx:beer:

Had a quick shuftie through yeterday's post to see what you'd all been up to and was horrified at how low some are feeling. Lou: Take a break and have a good rest. Don't stop reading though, and come back as soon as you feel able, we will miss you. Just remember how unique you are. There is only one Loulou in the whole world, you are very special. Be very kind to yourself.
NPM: What a breakthrough that would be if DS could dress himself. My DGS (also autistic) isn't too bad with dressing himself except for the fiddly bits. Normally he is quite good but sometime ago had a real meltdown in the school car park, he removed every stitch of clothing and screamed blue murder, pointing at my DS and yelling, "Bad man, bad man." DS, who would walk to the ends of the earth in bare feet for him, was mortified.

Not much OS over the weekend. There was a lot of LO bread at the Drop-in yesterday, which I was given for a B&B pudding next week. There are several sorts of bread, granary, sourdough etc. It's sure going to be a diiferent sort of pud.
Dark and dismal today, I love it. Rushed about this am trying to keep warm as the boiler gave up on Sat. Boiler Doctor has been and we are all toastie again. Heating on in the DAYTIME! Such luxury.
A bit of ironing this pm and then I'll settle down with knitting for the evening.
    Love to all.

    Hi all,

Just having a breather for a minute or two.DS2 took me shopping earlier so i could get DN birthday pressie-'Perfume Laboratory' -she's 8 on Saturday :).We also got a couple of outfits for DGD as she is growing out of the first size now, then on to MrT for a few bits. There isnt enough work for DH & DS2 this week for both of them,so Ds is taking the opportunity to rest his back a bit, though touch wood seems a lot better after another treatment on Friday :j
I'm going to iron a few things before I make a start on tea prep.
JackieG- thanks for letting us know you've had a chat to Lou,I was a bit bothered about her last night-hope shes ok and you feel better soon
Hugs to all who need one xxx

    hello all.
well ive had a very money saving day. im really pleased. went to tesco this morning and doubled up my clubcard vouchers and got 40 pounds of christmas presents for 20 in vouchers so really my total spend was nothing - wel 1.18 if u include my milk!!. so the christmas shopping has started now to get organised and find places to hide them and start wrapping and organing what goes where. i love it so much. would love it even more if money was not a problem but been saving hard this year so wont be the usual struggle.
its grey and getting dark here, would love this time of day but have to work tonight so the normal feeling of shutting the curtains and being all cozy is just not there today!
have a good rest of the day. i did catch up earlier but this was my first chance to post!!

Afternoon! Just popping in to say hi and hope everyone's well. Haven't done much of the OSly stuff today - been at work, but did make a few colleague's heads turn when I took in my homemade gnocchi with ragu and cheese sauce for lunch :D Tomato soup for tea tonight - seems all I can talk about is food! Ah well. :)

Not a lot planned for tonight. I learnt the simple joy last night of a well-cleaned kitchen. Hope I can keep it that way. I'm off now to plan more food.

    Have a lovely evening, everyone.

Bramble - (((hugs))) You sound really up on the OSiness today - thinking of you
Islandmaid - there is a lot of that going around so it's entirely possible. I hope you feel better soon.
    Cheapskate - love your sig!

  • B brain thanks for asking about bil. The truth is, he's not good, he has done nothing but sleep for the past month, barely eats, and has been in a lot of pain. He was meant to be going back to see about what his next course of treatment will be, unfortunatel he was admitted about half an hour ago; they have put him on morphine, and he's awaiting an xray. Quite worried, unfortunately I can't do much to help because we cannot take our germs anywhere near.

Hope everything is OK with JackieO today. X
