Well what to say - time for another party in your house and as the bank doesn't own it, we can do what we want, raid the booze cabinet and make flags out of your bed sheets again

Awesome achievement that you and the family have managed, blasting through the figures in 4 years

Here's to building up the future pot

Well done Tilly. Welcome to the club!

You were an inspiration to me whilst I was OPing my mortgage and gave me the motivation to carry on.

It doesn't sink in until you have surplus funds & nowhere to put them than the savings account :j

  • Aw Tilly, it's so good to hear you talk about the future and what it'll mean to you. It's so motivational and spurs us all on. It certainly does me.

Look at all your lovely messages.....isn't it funny how you can feel such an affection for someone who you've never met, and may have been walking past in the street for years.

Enjoy what is to come - nobody can say you haven't earned it.

    Much love

Many congratulations on becoming Mortgage Free Tilly :T. What an achievement!
  • Badger has given me a badge :):):)

    I am delighted.

Church - thought provoking and challenging
Shopping - £47 Mr L - £5 off voucher in their paper which I'll use next Friday
HM pizza for dinner with roasted tomatoes from the garden. I brought garlic back with me from Portugql which will keep us going a while.

For any wannabe veg growers October is time for planing garlic gloves, to grow on into bulbs, along with broad beans. I definitely think the bean plants are stronger when we put seeds in, in October.

Ironing, menu planning on the agenda for later, plus hound walk and some salad seed planting (plus weeding). I have five marrows instead of courgettes. Will be slicing one and roasting it with garlic and cumin.

Thanks for your lovely messages - I am very much looking forward to tracking the savings moving forward :T

    Best wishes Tilly x x

  • Everything unpacked and squared away.

We have had a brilliant time away and that next chapter is so close. I'm taking a break from work for a while and helping a chum set up a business.

Today is the day and mortgage has gone - we have left £10 to keep it open just in case but we are counting it as closed.

I can't believe this day has arrived - November 2011 - August 2015 - just under four years and over £300k plus interest done.

It feels a bit odd in some respects as it has been our focus and now we are planning for the future. New chapter, new focus.

I'm still Tilly Tidying, will still menu plan, won't go out spending like a nutter - we will be buying a new laptop for DS as a well done for GCSE results.

Our money is our own - we had said at the start that Mr T would buy a new car once we were done. However, he bought a car a couple of years ago and that will last for years. House is well maintained so nothing to spend there either.

We are going out for dinner tonight, using the rest of the restaurant vouchers up to celebrate.

The time has flown and we could not have achieved this without the help and advice from this forum. New friends made, work changes due to redundancy, DD leaving home, losing a sister, losing my dad. What a time we have had - now we get to plan our next phase. Mr T may kill me if I mention worktops or en suites - planning the changes for Portugal will keep me busy.

Right, Mr T is BBQing, it's blinking cold although the sun has been out and I'm to find a sweater and sit outside with DD, DS and Mr T.

Thanks to everyone has helped keep us going.

    CHEERS.

    Best wishes Tilly x x

Just popped in as saw you reached your target TWO YEARS early! I am an oldie rebranded so not a complete novice to it all but have learnt loads from you. I started this back in 2009 and still going with only a qtr of your mortgage :( But I am doing it on my own on a small wage so shouldnt grumble.

Definitely need a Tilly's Top Tips. You have worked so hard with everything. I have started to be a bit non-frugal of late, going out for dinner more than I used to etc. Not sure what the change is other than I have become lazy :p I need to get back on it properly. I am under a year away now and it seems so close now. I wish I had a house abroad to retire too lol but will have to accept moving to Norfolk as my achievable goal instead ;)

We both feel nervous and relieved that we have posted as this is going to help focus the brain but having had such negative comments from friends about over paying it's made us determined to keep quiet to the outside world as many people just don't understand

    I wonder if they're understanding now?!:T:T:T
