  • Just fitting a quick response in before our friends pitch up. Ski trip is £1200 I hadn't realised I made a typo but the school said £1500 including full kit. £300 on ski clothes, I don't think so. Us internet savvy people have to stick together. :). Travel, all food, ski school, ski passes, ski boots, entertainment but it still seems a lot to me.

Mr Tilly has excelled himself in the kitchen and it all smells delicious. Can't wait to get stuck in.

Good morning, absolutely pouring with rain again, but given the hose pipe ban, I guess that's a bonus.

I am in my run down to payday and by then will have the funds for 2 cash ISAs to be filled. As we have had some work done at home I wondered whether we would achieve it, but it's done. Good to know it will be locked away.

We have had a superb Easter weekend and will be off in half an hour for a walky/jog. Having eaten a delicious meal last night, I do need to get out and stretch my legs.

Menu plan looking good for April. I am going to do the no spending for a week, so will need to live out of the freezer and larder. I will leave money in cash for fresh fruit and milk though. I may give this a go once per month - I have fiscal fast in my mind but will have to check the name out. The reason for doing it is to make us all consider how a home runs and encourage the children to be inventive as well. Let's see how that goes. Finally, if we achieve it, that's a further £720 pa OP, by just making stuff we have already work harder (circa £60x12). As I have posted previously our freezer, larder and food store are extremely well stocked and the stock still has to be rotated.

Some time ago I posted about selling gold - the stones will be removed shortly and it will all be sent off. The jeweller has enough for the various pieces being made, and the rest can now go. That's about a further £900 OP in the making.

Next thing to do is open the Halifa@ accounts. I know quite a few do that on the MfW forum, so will double check how it works, but if I open two individual and one joint, 3 x £5 free money per month, gives us £180 a year, for using the same £1000 in and out and back to offset. That money will be ear marked for the entertainment pot.

Thats it for now, have to chuck kit on and gt out in the rain :)

    Have a good day, Tilly

You are fantastically organised Tilly! I love the idea of 3 Halifax accounts - I have 1 (and OP the Reward each month :D), but in times gone by, when I was paying off debts and saving for a deposit, I would have done just the same as you.

I seem to have lost my motivation a bit though - not sure why. I will have to try to get it back!
  • Hi Dawn, I think we all lose our mojo at times but these diaries help get us over the difficult times. There's always someone who has experience in areas where we are weak and vice versa and I have found this a huge help.

I have phases where I am organised but if work gets too much, my home organisation decreases which does mean the home doesn't run as ŵell.

    Get mojo hunting, Tilly x

  • Hi Tilly,

In February there was a promotion wherein Halifax gave £100 for opening a Reward account and another £100 for Clarity Reward credit card. It might be worthwhile checking whether this promotion is still on in-branch before opening the accounts.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks US, I will pop in tomorrow and check it it. Fingers crossed the offer is still on :)

I thought that offer was only for if you swapped to them as your main bank account? I looked at it but wasn't willing to switch so wouldn't have qualified for the incentive... :undecided

  • Hi Caz, thanks for your post, I will check tomorrow. I would not want it to be the main account, but I am happy to do a few money switches a month to get £180 over twelve months.

Hope your little ones have had a great Easter :)

    Best wishes Tilly x

Yes, I guess if you're not really bothered about the incentive and just want the extra £5 per month per account then it's still free money for next to no work, so is worthwhile. There was talk about them working to close that loophole at some point, so that only those customers who use the account as their main account will qualify for the ongoing monthly rewards. I think they'll lose a lot of customers if/when they make that change.

  • Hiya Caz, I will give it a go tomorrow. That will teach me not to get it sorted straight away, however, I did want my mortgage switched first.

I am loving my savings pots and knowing that it's being off set - doesn't take much to make me smile :)
