Afternoon Tilly, am I right in thinking you pay your council tax by credit card? It's just occurred to me that if we did the same in April and use a 0% purchases card (which I have) it would free up the monthly payment to use for something else. What do you think? Given that we are at the 'desperately keeping afloat' stage after 16 months of DH being unemployed, I'm scrabbling to make the income we do have stretch as far as possible without damaging our credit score as we can't afford to lose our house.
Hope all is well at Tilly Towers xx0 -

We finally took the plunge a couple of weeks ago to cancel Sky.
As you have to give a months notice, we still have to pay for another couple of weeks, but we've already put the Sky Box to one side and have installed our new freeview box. All the channels we watch most of the time are on freeview, and we can use it to record programmes.
If it's connected the internet it can also get iplayer, but we've never used this very much, so haven't bothered.
So far, we haven't missed Sky at all. It seems a really BIG thing to cancel Sky, but once it's done, it's quite a relief to be honest.
For films we are going to rewatch some of the DVD's that we have, and will watch or record films from freeview.
We are likely to go to the cinema more often now (we can take advantage of off peak prices), so we will see some new films. But Ed's DVD rental sounds interesting - might look into that at some point

Goldiegirl we have taken a l0v3f1lm trial twice through TCB, definitely worth investigating. They used to send us cards occasionally to give to friends/family for a free trial too.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
No TV is a great idea. But can you watch cbbc online?0

Just wanted to say - I have enough trouble finding time to watch TV (the only thing I pay is TV license) that I want watch now. How does anyone find time to watch a channel they have to pay for unless they prioritise that channel. Even young children can be trained or even only allowed to watch minimal amounts of TV. Put it another way -DON'T PAY for it!0

Mr E, I tried looking up Netflix-Lovefilm type providers but they don't seem to share examples of what is on offer. Do you have any links you can share? Thanks.
Thanks for all the feedback re TV. I don't think we would get rid of the TV but would watch programmes a different way. Whether it is an age thing I don't know, but I don't want to watch anything live if it is not on BBC. The ads drive me mad
As we start the planning for selling the house, we may turn the TV room into the dining room and switch things round.
£90 OP this morning.
I'm working from home today so let's hope I finish the ironing in between calls.

I'm making chicken dopiaza today for later in the week and will freeze. Today will be leftovers.
Mr T is away for a couple of nights and DS and I are tackling a few jobs in the study, which appears to be turning into a room of doom
I have spent one month's entertain budget but have booked 5 fun events for me and Mr T, taking us through to July
Finally we are looking at vacations but this is proving ridiculously difficult. School end of term after GCSE, annual camps, volunteering trips etc etc, are resulting in us not benefitting from cheap travel outside school hols
. In the grand scheme it's not important, but it would have helped other spends, if money could have been diverted.
All part of making our money work harder for us, rather than others.
Right, I'd better get cracking.
