Do you ever use a washing machine cleaner Tilly?
I'm not a big one for brand loyalty, but a Dr Beckm@nn S3rvice-it twice a year seems to work wonders. It's one of those products that provides visible results (i.e. the washing machine 'coughs' out big clots of washing powder residue etc.)0 -

I only wash at 40 and higher - machine smelt v quickly when I did 30 and I decided life was too short

Just thought that I'd add my two-penneth to the washing machine discussion
- I add two table spoons of soda crystals to each wash. I find that it helps to remove stains and it also keeps my machine clean as it gets very dirty after washing DH's mountain biking clothes.
My local Aldi was selling a twin pack of Washing Machine Cleaner this week, I can't remember the exact price, but it was under £2. I haven't used it yet but it's meant to remove limescale, dirt and odours.0 -
its funny Daisy...I get a similar effect washing horse rugs...0

Daisy, do you put the crystals in the powder try or straight in the drum?Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -

Hi SSS, I put them in the dispenser/tray with my washing powder or laundry gel. It is also meant to soften clothes, though I have not noticed that the clothes are any softer than usual.
I used to wash using Non-Bio as DS2 has eczema but I found that it didn't remove stains, but I now use Bio with the soda crystals and I am happy to say that not only does it remove stains but it also doesn't affect DS2's skin.0 -
Evening, thanks for all the washing machine information
:).
I'll be trying soda crystals - I know I have one in the garage and will also try vinegar as a softener.
DS is home and his bags unpacked, clothes washed, dried and only two things to iron.
The gym this morning was a killer 1.5 hours non stop
Mr T is travelling north tomorrow and I'll be dropping him off at the station nice and early. It's great to see him enjoying the work. Like all of us there are frustrations but he's happier working.
Busy week ahead - out to the gym a couple of times for classes, dinner with an MSE chum and a good weekend to look forward.
I'm off for an early night

Are we all using white or brown? I used to use white and a hot wash but have run out, got more from Mr T thinking it was a bargain but turned out to be malted brown. Will it still do the trick, do you think? Unlikely to use it otherwise as I try to be relatively yeast-free and of course it's pretty yeasty! XStash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!
