Hi Tilly!
All good with me, thank you. We are buying a car which is exciting for OH but not so much for me. Plans are still in place this year to have saved a nice 'rainy day' fund even with the car payments and to buy a sofa - I noticed that you have bought one too!!
We have done pretty well with saving having saved £1,000 this month, made another £400 from ebay and selling bits and bobs and credit card for next month is only £300 at the moment so I am really happy with us for behaving ourselves. Things have been so busy at work that I have 'volunteered' to work extra so that should bring in another £5-700 next month depending on how much I do. In many ways it would make sense for me to go FT but I can't bring myself to it just yet!
Can't believe the difference in interest, just hoping rates stay vaguely small until 2014 when I have to remortgage. Wish I hadn't fixed for so long in 2009 but there you go!!
Have a great weekend

Morning, we have a day of gardening ahead of us. Shame it isn't as glorious as last weekend, but not to worry.
Menu plan is working well and makes life SO much easier. I am working like a mad woman at the moment, so certainly could not cope without my planning.
I had a guy speak to me about mortgages at work the other day - I braved the comment "we are OPing" and he said "you need to be living in the here and now". What exactly does tht mean I wonder?
We go out to the movies, to dinner (less often), walking. Our hobbies include growing veg and cooking beautiful meals, we drink great wines (well not as much since I gave up for a month and it is dragging into three, with the exception of a couple of celebratory glasses)?
So last night the kids were off with friends and we sat down to steak from Ald@, salad and a fab bottle of wine 1/2 price from Tesc@. Talked through the last week and caught up - to me that's living in the moment. Taking time to consider what you have and appreciate it - goodness, sorry for the philosophical post, I will head straight out to the garden now.
By the way, the same guy at work was telling me about his credit card bills - ooh I was so tempted to say something about the 'here and now' but I kept quiet

Congrats Tilly on your new mortgage and halved daily interest!! :T :T :T
I wanted to ask, what term did you take it out over? Just curious really. Am pondering options for when we remortgage, we could remove another 5 years off our term by keeping payments the same, or we could actually keep the term the same meaning lower contracted payments, and then make as much op as we can. I assume you didn't take your mortgage over 4 years with your 2016 end date in mind :rotfl:Rule 7: If you're not changing it, you're choosing it.

Agree Tilly. Enjoying the here and now doesn't mean working to fill the pockets of the cc companies, it means reaping the benefits of your own hard work yourself. I too have to bite my lip a lot at work.....
SquirrelPaid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D1 -
Morning Tilly, just wanted to pop in and say HURRAH - WELL DONE ON THE SWITCH :j:j:j:beer::beer::beer:

Hi Caz, we thought long and hard about the mortgage term and went for 15 years in the end. However, the total OP, whether directly off the capital or in offset (we will be doing both) is set to the mortgage being cleared in 5. This means that should one of us lose our job, then we could stop OPs and manage on one salary. Seemed like the most sensible option.
We are still aiming for 4/8/16 though but that is going to require some doing - should we fail, then we will be finished by November 2016. :T
Many years of posting to go yet:)
Hope all is going well with your weekend, Tilly x2004 £387k 29 years - MF March 2033:eek:

Hi Squirrel, there really are times when I wish I did say something. Everyone seems to be happy to share their views on how you lead your life and DH and I would never dream of doing that. At least on this board we all support and understand what's driving us. Less money for the banks, more money for us
.

Hi PWD, oooohhhhh to get to a 199k figure, won't that be FAB:j. Definitely will require lots of motivation and more use of the grabbit bird, EBay etc.
Just popped into the house for a cuppa and DH is already telling me it's back to the grindstone - have to go out and do more gardening

Hi Tilly, yes, I was indeed in my jimmy jammys by then and in bed for 8.30 and asleep withing the hour which was fab and all helped with the 5am start  (for what felt like the millionth time last week)Tilly_MFW_in_6_YRS wrote: »Sadly yet again I have my days wrong, we switch Friday not tomorrow - too much work is addling my brain.
I am so looking forward to our mortgage starting with a 1. Hoping to achieve that during the first quarter of 2013, may slip into second quarter but fingers crossed.
Yay, Friday was yesterday, the day has finally arrived, well done Tilly family :j:jTilly_MFW_in_6_YRS wrote: »Morning,

Mortgage under £300k after 8 years we are now starting with a 2 :T
£299k - now to get it down to £199k :rotfl: First target is £275k
Daily interest is £22.50 meaning we will be paying approx £675 OP per month by doing nothing except paying the same amount as previously. We have decided to keep March OP back £2500, as we have a project to do at home but then it is all systems go.
I absolutely appreciate the mortgage is still HUGE, but psychologically it feels great.
Have a good day all, Tilly x
Well done again Tilly, it's great when a significant milestone happens like that isn't it so woohoo to the balance now starting with a 2. It must also be a massive boost in more ways than one to know the £675 OP is happening without any extra effort
Can't wait to see your £199k post and I'm sure at the rate you are going £275 will be here before you know it
Regards
