I lack imagination Al.
Meat eater = cook meat well, bung on some sides.
Veggie = the sides are somehow expected to become the meal!
This week I'm experimenting with an Italian bread soup and a duck egg frittata. I forget, is that vegetarian or not?0 -
Frittata yes. Not sure...whats in the soup?0

Hi Tilly,
Do you really cook from recipe books everyday. I am so mega impressed if so. I just seem to cook the same meals week in week out. Can't think what to eat etc.
Wouldn't know where to start and whenever I have done 'recipes' it's cost a small fortune etc.
You would think at 58 years old I would have done a little better lol
Hi Mint, I really do use recipes most days - I'd say over 90% of the times. Mainly because there's only so many chilli, spag bols a girl can eat.
Loads of us having different ways of handling the every day food. I'd tried weeks plans, months, two monthly but I find that a calendar month works the best for us both financially and time wise. I tend to batch cook where it makes sense, from the plan then freeze. Dig out the meal the night before and heat up, with fresh veg, carbs where appropriate. This seems to optimise my £ and as I tend to work long hours, it stops us whizzing to the takeaway.
I have a well stocked spice/herb cupboard. I buy tins of toms, kidney beans, mixed beans etc in bulk and have a larder in the garage. Basically a billy bookshelf from a previous home very well stocked. Plus loads of different rices, bulghur wheat, quinoa, cous cous, pasta. Seems to work ok but maybe because of Mr T working, I just lost the plot. I'm pretty much done now though.
I have enough cookery books that I could probably cook something every day for the rest of my life :eek::eek: and beyond :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Morning, just about to have a cuppa and then walk the hounds. Thanks for your PM Lydia - they are gorgeous
Providing the weather holds we are having a mega long walk early afternoon and taking a picnic. Taking a football, tennis ball and rackets and intend having an afternoon of play. DD and DS are looking forward to thrashing their parents - bring it on :rotfl:
I've realised I forgot to buy ham for DS's lunches, we need to drop a suit in to the dry cleaners, more ironing  and I also need to buy a new iron. Will have a go at working through this tomorrow.
The week should mainly consist of NSDs.
£3 PC survey money arrived and has been OPd rather than moved to offset - it was a good feeling.
I'm looking at investment properties for when I take voluntary redundancy/get offered it.

Morning Tilly, up too early here, small boy watching How to Train Your Dragon:eek:
Glad the dog is fine, oh that's ours just raced through to say good morning to son number one, who has now appeared to join his brother. Strangely DH is still in the land of nod!
I've been sitting here looking at properties too, but definitely fantasy stuff for us:D

Rather jealous of your sunny weather down south. It's quite overcast here and makes days out trickier to plan.
I need to try monthly meal planning, a week goes so fast!
We are well stocked at the moment so might give it a whirl later especially as I am trying to stick to SW.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Morning PwD, the kids have ironing to do for a group they belong to, which requires steam, very high heat and it means the iron plate gets marked, which in turn transfer to anything white.
I've decided the kids can keep the one iron just for their kit and I'll have one they are banned from using, for normal ironing, may sound extreme but I am fed up of having to re wash clothes due to marks from the iron. I've tried cleaning the plate, but I turn round and it's happened again. Drives me mad.
Morning CathT, weather is cool but good for walking. The sun definitely having a go at showing its face. By the time we are ready to go out, it seems like it will be a good day. If it rains, we will just have to get wet, as the kids are on a mission to slaughter us today
